"Historic Cathedral" Also known as the Samba Kovil, the magnificent Immaculate Conception Cathedral on Mission Street is the seat of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Puducherry. Dressed in bright yellow and white, the imposing facade and the rest of the cathedral building is stunningly beautiful. Originally built in the 17th Century during the French colonial era, it underwent at least three demolitions, first by the ruling Dutch and then by the British. The current building dates back to 1791 although a number of additions have continuously been made to the structure. The large courtyard in front of the Cathedral is the site of a number of religious ceremonies. With an array of beautiful paintings and murals, the cathedral interiors can only be described as grand. Marked by rich history and marvelous architecture, the Immaculate Conception Cathedral is one of the most beautiful churches in Puducherry. 204 Mission Street, Puducherry, India, 605001

Immaculate Conception Cathedral or Eglise de Notre Dame de la Conception Immaculee Church is a beautiful place of worship established in year 1686. Dedicated to St. Peters, it is a church of Capuchins and was first served as a small chapel situated outside the government park. In fact, it was the only surviving structure during the British invasion who aimed at mass destruction of buildings and monuments. Here, the mass is performed at 5:15 am to 6:15 am from Monday to Saturday while on Sundays; it begins at 5:00 pm.
