Seattle is home to one of the nation’s most diverse urban tree collections—double the East Coast’s average and triple the Midwest’s. Join me, a local data nerd, naturalist and bestselling author, for a stroll through Capitol Hill as we explore this charming neighborhood and its notable street trees. • We’ll begin our adventure at the locally beloved Macrina Bakery on 19th Avenue, where you’ll receive a map I’ve illustrated of the eight different trees we'll visit, along with a brief overview. • On our tree walk through the beautiful residential streets of Capitol Hill, we’ll stop at each tree to learn how to identify it and distinguish it from other species. • You’ll have a chance to see notable trees, including the city’s widest maple street tree (a native bigleaf maple), the widest sugar and silver maple street trees, and the widest giant sequoia street tree in Seattle. You’ll leave with a renewed sense of wonder, a mile of nature therapy, and a newfound appreciation for the more than 700 tree species that adorn the Emerald City. Relive the grunge years in the heart of Seattle’s scene

Back in the late 1980s and early 1990s, the music world turned its spotlight on Seattle, where bands like Nirvana, Soundgarden, and Pearl Jam were blowing minds and speakers with grunge rock. I'll guide you around my neighborhood, the epicenter for this music scene. • We'll meet up at Bon Voyage Vintage, my store, where you'll have a chance to dress up in the fashion of the grunge era, and I'll talk about how the Seattle grunge scene erupted. • Then we'll embark on a walking tour of Pioneer Square, stopping in at grunge landmarks like the OK Hotel, featured in the 1992 film Singles, and the Central Saloon, the site of Nirvana’s first Seattle show. • We'll also stop at Nord Alley, where we'll re-create a famous Nirvana photo with you in your flannel shirt and ripped jeans. Before we part ways, I'll give you a map of more Seattle rock landmarks so you can continue to explore grunge history.

This experience includes visiting two different waterfalls and includes over 1 mile of hiking. This is a unique opportunity to venture into the temperate rainforests of the Cascades. To breathe in the fresh air of the forest and see trees that are several hundred feet tall and equally as old. This is an experience for someone who is interested in getting a workout in the morning. The short trip includes ecological as well as cultural interpretation of the natural areas visited. It is a truly unique experience to be immersed in the cascade mountains.

Sailing Adventure from Bainbridge Island

S/V Rumbera departs from Bainbridge Island, a short 35 minute ferry ride from the Seattle waterfront and a popular day trip destination. We meet at Bainbridge’s Waterfront Park at the City Dock, an easy walk from the ferry terminal and downtown. Leaving the dock, we'll pass through beautiful Eagle Harbor before raising sails. To the east you’ll see the iconic skyline of Seattle, with majestic Mount Rainier to the south, the Olympic Mountains to the west, and Mount Baker to the north. Depending on the day, we’ll get up close to wildlife, explore beautiful harbors with stunning waterfront homes, and maybe even spot whales. Or we could see a nuclear submarine, inbound container ships, or century-old schooners. You'll learn about Bainbridge Island's unique history, from having the largest shipyard for wooden vessels in the West, to the earthquake that lifted a whole section of the Island 23 feet which can still be seen today, and of being the first place from which Japanese-Americans were forcibly removed from their homes during World War II. You decide whether to charter the whole boat (“private” for up to six people) or share a charter with others (“social” for up to six people). No matter what you choose, we know you’ll have fun. Next, we’ll drive to the Twin Falls trailhead for a scenic hike through lush forests along the Snoqualmie River. As we hike, I’ll point out local flora and fauna, emphasizing the importance of preserving these ecosystems. At Twin Falls, you’ll enjoy stunning views of the waterfalls plunging into the gorge. After our adventure, we’ll return to Seattle, where I’ll be happy to answer any questions. Join me for a day of exploration and connection to the stunning landscapes of the Pacific Northwest!

Forest hike to Twin and Snoqualmie Falls

This half day tour is a combination of a moderate 2-hour hike (also a few inclines for 7 minutes) to the Twin Falls close up and a visit to the famous Snoqualmie Falls which we drive right up to. I will pick you up in downtown Seattle and drive eastward for about 30 minutes until we arrive at the trailhead. We will hike in old growth forest along Snoqualmie River to Twin Falls and the Upper Falls (1.4 miles), which is a beautiful cascade of waterfalls. After the hike we will drive through North Bend, where the diner from the popular tv show "Twin Peaks" is located and through the historic logging town. Snoqualmie. The locomotives of the time are still on the railroad tracks and the old depot from the year 1890 is in use till this day. We stop to view the Snoqualmie Falls of 270 feet - followed by driving along Borst Lake, where Mount Si is reflected in the often still lake - and then drive back to downtown Seattle.

Mid-Day and Sunset Sails on Seattle's Majestic Puget Sound

There is a sense of magic in setting your sails, allowing the wind to carry you across water. I will gently encourage everyone to take a turn steering the boat, to feel the uniting force of wind and water. After all these years, I still find it enchanting. We will leave the dock at Shilshole Bay Marina, motor out past the city’s famed Golden Gardens Park, watch for sea lions loafing on the Meadow Point buoy, and then set sail, heading West across Puget Sound toward the magnificent Olympic Mountains. Along the way we will watch for orcas, schools of Dahl’s porpoises, sea lions, harbor seals, jumping salmon, bald eagles, great blue herons, cormorants, diving gulls, and other wildlife. On the Sunset Cruise we will keep a careful watch as the sun sets behind the Olympic Mountains, for the resulting lightshow is something you will want to capture on camera. As the sun drops behind the well-named Mount Olympus and other peaks in the range, it often illuminates the feathery horizon clouds into glorious colors. Join the Fun: Please don’t be shy about joining a cruise that already shows guests booked. It is always special when guests from different cities, states … and countries … come together to share this inspiring experience. Whichever voyage you choose -- Morning, Afternoon, or Sunset -- it is always magical to fill the sails on the beautiful waters of Puget Sound.
