This is a lovely space and we were very happy with it. It's huge for the area, very attractive and well maintained. There were tons of great extras. Wonderful entertainment system, very comfortable bed. All in all it was an awesome space, far better than any hotel at a remotely comparable price. The host was friendly and efficient and helped out when we got in early and needed to extend for a day!
Dave was easy to communicate with throughout our trip. Checking in was as easy as opening a small code lock-box to get the keys to the building and loft, and check out was as easy and leaving that all behind. I honestly don't think you could ask for a better location if you're looking to explore SF for the first time - it truly is central. Heck, when we explored the Mission district we took a car to the bottom and just walked our way back to the loft - we could have done the same for pretty much every major area we wanted to see. The first night we arrived we decided that since we'd be there a full week we would want some of our usual creature comforts, a full grocery store is an easy walk away (~1 mile). The rest of the time we just pop'ed into the small corner store Nik's which was essentially across the street (it's wrong on (website hidden) maps though, it's on the big main road south of the loft). The building was nice and quiet and the room was clean, comfortable, and plenty roomy for our uses. There's a decent diner right across the main road as well, but if you're looking for something a little nicer without being super pricey Cafe du Soleil is an easy walk and has great food to get your day started.
Anyhow, 10/10 - we'll definitely be staying with Dave again if the place is available next time we visit. Cheaper than a lot of the other listings in worse neighborhoods (this neighborhood felt nice and safe the whole time, as opposed to the tenderloin where most of the price-competitive listings are).
Stayed at Dave's place for two months (Jan/Feb 2015) while working in the bay area. Great place with good accomodations. Much, much better than staying at a hotel. The pics are very accurate & Dave was great to work with.
The place was perfect for our stay. Right in the heart of San Francisco, it makes seeing the city easy and convenient. Lots of local shops to keep busy and a great grocery store just down the street. Dave is a pleasure to deal with and is very reliable with communication. It was definitely a good base camp to explore from. Overall a great place
Dave was in the hospital but his neighbor was complete in orientating us. I am from the area so I already knew the area. She emphasized how dangerous it was for my partner to smoke outside at night. We had no problems with the area.
The apartment is next to the stairway and the space above has no carpets so the noise can be a bit much in the mornings. if you are overly sound sensitive this is not an ideal match.
we did enjoy our stay. great location and the text and e mail exchanges with hospitalized dave were fine.
Dave was very quickly into responding to our solicitations, the place is very well located near to metro station, Market Street, Best Buy, pharmacies and just a few blocks far from downtown. Also the flat had everything to make our stay comfortable.
We had a fine experience staying at Dave's place! He was easy to reach in order to pick up keys and check out plus understanding regarding a different checkout time due to our late flights. The apt. was in a convenient location to Lake Merritt and our relatives. We did park a car one day and found space only 1 block away. The studio was clean and well stocked with basic foods, too. Great stay and we hope to use it again when we are in the Oakland area.
I had a very beautiful trip thanks to Dave and his apt. It really is central in SF, and I could walk almost everywhere, and if not, BART , buses, trolleys are quite near. Hayes District where the apt is located is very nice to visit ( Haight and Hayes St).
The apt is in a basement, is well equipped, although I never cooked there. The washing and drying machines are outside the apt, in the building a few steps away. Dave gave me coins to use them.
On the whole, it is comfortable, but a bit noisy in the morning with the tenants leaving for work.
I do recommend this apt, Dave was very kind.
The location was great, convenient for pretty much everything, and felt safe. I enjoyed the studio, it was a good size and well equipped, although as others have pointed out it gets little sunlight. The laundry in the building was very useful.
The room is generally in good condition although the fact that it is below street level and hence not much sunlight during the day might need to be considered. And I wouldn't call it a "garden studio" as I found no garden except for a window to a few potted plants outside. The check in and check out process is smooth by the property manager, not the owner, of the house. The location is a bonus with its proximity to the subway station.
