This studio is really a great place to stay if you're planning on visiting San Francisco. I stayed here for a month and it was the perfect HQ for activities around the city.
The room is very centrally located, within walking distance or a short commute to everywhere, and lots of nice places to eat right nearby.
What made this place really great though was Dave being such a great host. He was very fast to respond whenever I needed help or had questions. He has also put everything you would need for daily living in the studio when you arrive, and the fridge and pantry are even stocked with some groceries, snacks, etc. Which makes your arrival feel much like you are simply returning back "home" from somewhere else, which is nice.
The one and only downside I'd say is that since it is a walk-down studio, it doesn't get much natural light, so you'll always need to have the lights on. But honestly, this didn't bother me at all and I'm mainly writing it for others who would probably like to know.
All in all, I strongly recommend staying here!
Dave's a wonderful host and was very responsive any time we had questions. The apartment was super comfortable and a perfect place to settle in for a couple of months while we looked for permanent housing in the Bay. The neighborhood and the lake are gorgeous - highly recommended.
Listing was very accurate. Apartment was as lovely as seen in the photos. Neighbors were friendly. They showed me around the apartment complex and let me in when Dave was busy.
Location is incredible. Right on the lake with a beautiful view of the skyline. Everything you need is within walking distance of the apartment (if you stay here you should definitely hit up the burrito truck). My girlfriend and I did not feel unsafe at any time during our stay. As long as you respect the area and be aware I doubt you will have any problems.
Passing off some advice: I was commuting to and from SF and would regularly get home later at night. I was told not to walk home from lake merrit bart and instead get off at 12th and take the bus home. Worked out great for me.
I was needing a temporary residence that had a soft bed and basic kitchen essentials - this was a perfect fit. Basic cable -warm showers- a block away from the lake if you enjoy running-definitely a plus. Parking was always available at the end of athol avenue around the circle---this was helpful once I figured this out(as parking tickets can be steep!) I felt safe-didn't have issues. Obviously didn't parade around in the dark on my cell phone either; Dave was a great host:)
Great area, the apartment is exactly like its description. I stayed for a month and it was perfect. Dave make sure that I had everything I needed and his friend even helped when I locked myself out. Highly recommended.
Super convenient, comfortable, well appointed, hide-away. Amazing book collection, entertainment center and shower! The neighbors can be noisy on the weekends but that's all a part of the San Fran experience! STAY HERE!! It's a GEM!
This is a fantastic apartment in the city for someone needing temporary space.
1) it's a five minute walk to MUNI rail and buses are even closer.
2) Plenty of shopping options are within walking distance. Trader Joes, Safeway, Rainbow, and many others.
3) The Willows is a great neighborhood bar. Good burgers, cold beer, eclectic crowd.
4) this is a roomy one bedroom. No cramped space. Plenty of room to stretch out.
5) did I mention GARAGE?!?!?!
6) your legs will be toned. Yep. 4 floors up. Live with it.
7) Dave is highly responsive. You need it, he's there.
Dave is the best host: he made us feel really comfortable, we were able to easily reach him any time we had a question and he was eager to help in every aspect during our stay at San Francisco. The neighbourhood was quiet and really close to the center even on foot. The place was amazing, had all the amenities we needed and more!
This is a lovely space and we were very happy with it. It's huge for the area, very attractive and well maintained. There were tons of great extras. Wonderful entertainment system, very comfortable bed. All in all it was an awesome space, far better than any hotel at a remotely comparable price. The host was friendly and efficient and helped out when we got in early and needed to extend for a day!
Dave was easy to communicate with throughout our trip. Checking in was as easy as opening a small code lock-box to get the keys to the building and loft, and check out was as easy and leaving that all behind. I honestly don't think you could ask for a better location if you're looking to explore SF for the first time - it truly is central. Heck, when we explored the Mission district we took a car to the bottom and just walked our way back to the loft - we could have done the same for pretty much every major area we wanted to see. The first night we arrived we decided that since we'd be there a full week we would want some of our usual creature comforts, a full grocery store is an easy walk away (~1 mile). The rest of the time we just pop'ed into the small corner store Nik's which was essentially across the street (it's wrong on google maps though, it's on the big main road south of the loft). The building was nice and quiet and the room was clean, comfortable, and plenty roomy for our uses. There's a decent diner right across the main road as well, but if you're looking for something a little nicer without being super pricey Cafe du Soleil is an easy walk and has great food to get your day started.
Anyhow, 10/10 - we'll definitely be staying with Dave again if the place is available next time we visit. Cheaper than a lot of the other listings in worse neighborhoods (this neighborhood felt nice and safe the whole time, as opposed to the tenderloin where most of the price-competitive listings are).
