Hello everyone! I'm an instructional technology specialist at a university here in New Orleans. If you have any questions about my listing, please feel free to contact me.
Gina and her family were the definition of southern hospitality. The room was extremely clean with a fridge stocked with water, TV (inc. netflix), a closet. Furthermore the bathroom was very spacious with an aqua theme which not only had a nice shower but also a bathtub. The room had a private back entrance with a balcony. This way you did not have to disturb the family when you came home.
Every morning we would receive a note from Gina telling us that she had coffee and pastries ready for us to go. We felt like she was our New Orleans mother.
The location of the house is perfect in relation to French quarter. We would typically walk to the main street and then catch a cabbie to take us to the French Quarter.
So thank you you Gina and family for our first Mardi Gras experience an exceptional one. We will definitely be back!
The apartment was a great self contained space, with a lovely balcony looking over the yard. It was clean and comfortable- we really appreciated the homey touches which made us feel very welcome. The apartment is a short walk from the ferry terminal.
We enjoyed our stay at Gina's apt. She was very gracious and helpful and understanding when we needed to stay an extra day due to the storm. The 100 year old house is nicer in person than in the pics, all the original trim is intact and it has high curved plaster ceilings. The place was spotless and it was nice having some food there to start us off. The neighborhood was charming to walk through and was quiet except for a barking dog who was kept out too much by the neighbors. It was a nice walk to the ferry, very short ride across, and two nice restrurants were on the way. The ferry evening hours did get curtailed after I had made reservations which didnt bother us but if you want to stay out late you should check the ferry schedule before staying in Algiers as buses arent that convenient or late either and taxis expensive. I did hear the ferry hours might be increased in feb again.
Gina was a pleasure to stay with! Her place is cozy, clean and 7-12 minutes away from everything we wanted to see -- and all of the places we wanted to eat! She was responsive to our needs and very helpful -- as were her sons. My boyfriend got sick when we were there -- she was well equipped with medication and tea to help nurse him back to health. She even offered to go to the drugstore if what she had didn't work. Lovely home, lovely human being -- we will definitely visit Gina again!
I was a little surprised at the area it was located, even though I'm originally from New Orleans. Napoleon Ave. has gorgeous home, one block off, not so lovely. The room and bath was spotless, but there was a terrible odor which I realized was seeping from under the house. Thank Godiva had Frebrezz in my car. I sprayed it! I think that the dampness from under the house needs to be rectified with lime. Also, the railings are weak, so don't put weight on the. And, there are no spot lights to guide you toward the end of the broken driveway. There is no TV stations, just netflix. We left a day early. Gina was very well spoken, hopefully she'll make a few outdoor repairs, and never bring the renters through the upstairs maze to get to thie room. But, the accommodations were spotless. Gina is a very nice person.
I had guests in town for the weekend and this was a great place for them to stay. They said they want to stay there from now on whenever they visit. The house is convenient, comfortable, and clean. Lots of privacy. Gina is a great hostess.
A nice stay. Beautiful, comfortable, and located close to good stuff in Breaux Bridge. Linni and Trent were welcoming and helpful.
We couldn't have had a more perfect end to our NOLA trip. Gina and her sister JoAnn were responsive to texts and emails, and the house was perfect, even stocked with fresh milk, beer, and chips. Algiers is a cute, safe, quiet neighborhood just a short ferry ride away from the craziness of French Qtr. The house is easily walkable from the ferry terminal. If you go, try the Wine and cheese bar next door to the Dry Dock Pub, and Tout de Suite for coffee and lunch.
Gina Allen was an amazing host! Incredibly kind, hospitable, quick to communicate, generous and gave lots of good suggestions. During our stay she prepared or left breakfast every morning and recommended a few really good restaurants including including High Hat, Willie Mae's Scotch House and Emeralds. The house is in a safe and convenient location a few blocks from the bus to the French Quarter or Uptown. The room had a separate entrance for privacy, a porch and separate bathroom with a jacuzzi. Would strongly recommend her to all who are looking for a great host and a great place to stay!
We had the opportunity to stay with Gina for two evenings and can't say enough about the beautiful bedroom and incredible bathroom! In addition, the location of her home was a big plus for us. Gina was a wonderful host and her son, Joseph went out if his way to help us feel at home. We look forward to staying with Gina again.
Gina was very courteous and respectful of staying in my apartment. She wrote a sweet note of thanks despite me doing very little other than making sure she had everything she needed and to be available to her if she had a question.
