Dorsoduro, where this Ca’ del Petalo is situated, is described as the ‘real Venice', a quieter, distinctly less touristy base for a trip to Venice, yet only 15 minutes from the crush of San Marco. Although we made an obligatory trip to San Marco, we rushed back over the Grand Canal and spent the remainder of our break exploring the galleries, churches, museums in Dorsoduro. For food and wine, these quiet streets provide all you need in the way of good quality restaurants and bacari, the bars that serve superb ciccheti (small tapas-like snacks).
The listing description undersells Barbara’s elegant apartment, filled with antiques and curiosities. Two comfortable beds, a well-equipped kitchen and a cosy sitting room are ideal for a short or long stay. A little more hot water for our morning bath/showers and fluffier towels would’ve been welcome, but both were adequate as they were. An effective (once charged) wi-fi router is provided for data-junkies. You get some television noise from neighbours in the mid-morning and early evening, but otherwise the apartment is exceptionally quiet and I slept better there than I do at home. In the early morning, the only sounds are the gulls.
We were welcomed by one of Barbara’s employees, Giorgio (hope I’ve spelled that correctly) who took the time to explain how the apartment worked. She was very warm and friendly, a nice welcome to our first time in Venice.
This apartment has a convenient location to San Marco Piazza, Church of San Zaccaria (vaporetto) and Campo de S. Maria Formosa, small restaurants and shopping. It is spacious, very clean and well organized. The stairs leading to the apartment are steep, but worth the climb for the apartment. The three main bedrooms are quite large as are the living room and kitchen. The fourth bedroom is smaller. We would stay here again.
I really appreciated the patience the host showed waiting on us to make it from the train station to where we were supposed to meet. Also, very responsive with helping with the heat controls.
The apartment was large, in a fairly quiet neighborhood. It was close to a supermarket, convenient to the main path from S.Marco to the Rialto bridge.
The only negative was the small amount of hot water available for a three bedroom apartment. We frequently ran out.
What a lovely place! My husband and 12 year old son spent 5 nights in this charming apartment for Christmas and had a wonderful time. I had been in email contact with Barbara, who was very helpful, but Giorgia was the one who actually met us and helped us get settled.
The neighborhood was perfect. Very convenient, but quiet and away from the hustle and bustle. The perfect place to spend Christmas. The apartment is very cozy, elegant and fully stocked with all amenities. We cooked in a few nights, which was great. There is a large grocery store not far so we were able to get food, etc. easily. There is a washer and dryer, dishwasher and all you will need to cook. We liked the layout of the place, as our son had some privacy in his own upstairs room with shower room and we had a lovely master bedroom on the main level with en suite bathroom. It was PERFECT for (website hidden)' Del Petalo was immaculately clean on our arrival, and the decor is exceptional. The Accademia Bridge is an easy 5 minute walk and really all of the sights of Venice walkable. A truly special place in a truly special city. Hoping to make it back some day. Many thanks.
Very smooth booking process and generally a very pleasant accommodation experience. This is the first time I have booked with airbnb, so I didn't know what to expect.
The accommodation was brilliant, the host (Barbara) had everything under control for our arrival, and the whole booking process was really easy.
Frari really did feel like our own private apartment tucked away in a really convenient part of Venice. By the end of our second day we were experts in navigating our way around the city. It was always pleasant coming home to our private apartment to relax between our ventures out.
Only two things to be wary of; there was some noise coming from the Frari Piazza and the walkway below the apartment. Normally this would carry on until 11pm at night. It wasn't too loud, but the 'street' noise definitely carries up the stairs all the way into the apartment. It is very easy to put up with, however it should be mentioned.
Also the WIFI was ok, but not the best that we encountered on our trip. It was getting tedious towards the end of our stay. Possibly this is something Barbara will have addressed in the future.
I would definitely recommend this apartment to others and we would certainly stay there again if given the chance in the future.
Very luxurious flat just opposite the Frari church. A lot of thoughtful details in the interior decoration. Nice little area, close to the San Toma' vaporetto but not too touristy, with lots of lively local shops and bars. Slightly annoyingly, one of these is below the flat. This might be more of a problem in summer than it was with the windows shut; even so, I bought ear plugs, and needed them one night. Otherwise it was a delightful place to stay, so much so that we got into the habit of returning 'home' for lunch and cooked dinner there one evening.
Barbara and her family are wonderful people. No problem with them. They left the house as they found it, very clean. I wish to have always customers like Barbara. I highly recommend them. Thank you Barbara.
