If you are looking for an activity to do while in town, consider trying an escape room game. At The Escape Artist, you and a partner (you need at least 2 people to play) enter an immersive experience in which you try to find clues and solve puzzles in order to accomplish the game's goal within a certain amount of time. I have tried a small version of an escape room and thought it was a really fun challenge!

The free lecture and tour provides great background about Seattle and the changes people have made to the land. When I took the walking tour, I learned a lot about how the low lands were filled in and the massive Denny regrade. We also went up to the top of the Smith Tower, at treat in and of itself. Excellent chance to combine some learning with fun.

Parks & Nature

Lincoln Park has gorgeous waterfront views, without the hustle and bustle of Alki Beach. See old growth trees and walk the tangle of paths, flat along the water, or up and down the hillside. An outdoor salt-water swimming pool with views of the Olympic Mountains, a wading pool and park for youngsters, and Shakespeare in the Park (free) during summer months. Great for picnics. Access to the Fauntleroy Ferry to Vashon Island.

Alki Beach has beach access without the need to cross a railroad track or be blocked from direct water access. Iconic views of the Olympic Mountains, Mount Baker and the Seattle sky line, as you walk, bike, kayak, roller blade or run along the paved path adjacent to the beach. Kids and brave souls will swim. Or sun and dig in the sand. Restaurants, shops and rental of equipment along Alki and as it turns to Harbor Avenue. In summer months, you may hear music or find a dance event, an art fair or car show, along the walkway.

The Frye Art Museum is free and so is its parking lot. It's close to mass transit, also. The museum is small but has rotating exhibits and a constant room of paintings. The snack shop is great, with an indoor or outdoor area for seating. Beautiful items in the gift shop.

Essentials

West Seattle Produce has excellent, local fresh fruits and vegetables, as well as locally made chips and salsa (the one with coconut in it is awesome!), flavored olive oils and great bagels. Nice people with a covered, farm-stand feel. Pumpkins at Halloween and trees at Christmas.

Shopping

West Seattle has several fun consignment stores, primarily for women and a few for children. Most are on California Ave SW. Zelda's is near my home. It offers fun fashion for women at reasonable prices. It's nestled between a coffee shop and an art bar (where you can paint and sip, if you wish).
