Renowned local chef, Pete Vazquez, cooks food of all varieties at his takeout shop located on our block. He changes the menu daily, but no matter what he's cooking, it's sure to be delicious! It’s open Thursday through Sunday from 4:00pm until he sells out (usually around 8:00ish).

This is a mandatory stop for beignets. Local tip - this place is seat yourself so if you see a table that appears available then swoop past the less-savvy tourists waiting for a hostess. Also many people don't know that it is 24 hours. It is generally less hectic during late night and is extra delicious after a night on the town.

The beignets here are a little different then Café du Monde, but no less delicious! Rather than having powdered sugar piled high, they arrive to the table bare and you can add as much or as little powdered sugar as you would like yourself. A great stop while exploring City Park and conveniently right near the playground if you have children. It is open 24 hours.

This is THE place to get an authentic muffuletta. I recommend getting your muffuletta and then crossing the street to sit on a bench by the river to eat.

Hands down the best poboys in town! One of my absolute favorite things to do if the weather is nice is get a shrimp poboy from Parkway walk over to a nice spot on the bayou and have a picnic-style lunch. I personally think they also make one of the best gumbos in town. I also find their french fries with debris gravy on them to be an amazing hangover cure. You can take the Canal St streetcar to City Park/Cemeteries and walk from the end of the line at Esplanade.

This place is the original snowball stand and still makes them the best! Locals will line up around the corner during snowball season because we know it's worth the potential wait. Luckily the line moves quickly. It's a bit difficult to get to without a car, but worth the trek, especially on a hot day.

There is no better place to have dinner when the weather is nice. It's a wine shop in the front where you can purchase a bottle of wine and cheese if you'd like. They'll make your cheese up in a tasty cheese plate and bring it out to you in the backyard. There's always live music and a great vibe. For dinner you order at a window in the back. The food is quite good! I would not recommend walking here after dark; while this neighborhood is very up and coming it is still a bit rough. Make sure to get there early because the tables in the back are take one as they become available so it gets tougher as the evening goes on.

Drinks & Nightlife

This iconic New Orleans bar is a great place to grab a drink and talk to the locals. There is live music Thursdays through Sundays. It is a very no-frills neighborhood bar. Often has a food truck parked outside on the weekends.

Getting Around

The ferry is the most convenient way to get into the French Quarter or downtown from Algiers Point. It costs $2 cash per person (per trip) – pay the attendant as you board. The ferry departs Algiers Point every 30 minutes on the hour and half hour (i.e. 8:00 and 8:30). Departs Canal Street every 30 minutes at a quarter until and a quarter after the hour (i.e. 8:15 and 8:45).

Sightseeing

Catch the St. Charles streetcar line starting at Canal Street and ride it uptown to see all of the beautiful and historic mansions and oak trees along St. Charles Avenue. A slow-paced way to sit back and take in some of the views. Hop-off at Audubon Park to take a stroll through the park or hop off in the Riverbend area to grab some lunch at one of the many restaurants or coffee shops nearby.
