Osteria Alla Staffa serves delicious food from noon onwards. The food, as recommended by Rick Stein in his program on Italy, is very Venetian if sitting down to eat. If you stand at the bar, you can eat the equivalent of tapas - small meals, perhaps 4 to a plate and these are delicious with creamed fish, octopi, cod and other delights. However, if you go to sit down, you can share a plate of these but have to also order from the menu inside, which has the typically primo, secondo dishes. These dishes varying in price from euro 15 upwards in general, are delicious and the liver plus the bacalhou are recommended. It is truly good food with a lovely combination of Venetian, regional and Italian

Especially in the 19th century, La Fenice became the site of many famous operatic premieres at which the works of several of the four major bel canto era composers—Rossini, Bellini, Donizetti, and Verdi were performed. Its name reflects its role in permitting an opera company to "rise from the ashes" despite losing the use of three theatres to fire. All visitors of Burano remain intrigued by the many colours and the colorful houses that are reflected into the green waters of channels, by the leaning bell tower, by the tranquility and the calmness with which the elderly ladies embroider original Burano lace by their tombolo (or lace pillow), while they are laughing and chatting in squares among them. It seems to be in paradise. Children who dart freely with their bicycles, balconies with multicolored flowers, fishermen who put up fresh fish from their traditional boats.

A masterpiece of Gothic architecture, the Doge’s Palace is an impressive structure composed of layers of building elements and ornamentation, from its 14th and 15th century original foundations to the significant Renaissance and opulent Mannerist adjunctions. The structure is made up of three large blocks, incorporating previous constructions. The wing towards the St. Mark’s Basin is the oldest, rebuilt from 1340 onwards. The wing towards St. Mark’s Square was built in its present form from 1424 onwards. The canal-side wing, housing the Doge’s apartments and many government offices, dates from the Renaissance and was built between 1483 and 1565.
