middle priced restaurant next to a lake in the Tiergarten and one of my favourites. German style food which also serves pizza. Often they have wood burning stoves going and you can take a walk around the lake after eating. The hot chocolate is recommended!

famous gate, kind of a must see to tick off and easy to walk past if visiting the Reichstag and the Holocaust memorial. Worth walking down the road into the tiergarten and seeing the photograph on the right hand side showing the gate when the Berlin wall came down.

technically the capital city of the German federal state of Brandenburg. It is about 45 minutes outside of Berlin by train. It offers beautiful walks around the Sanssouci Park which also hosts some beautiful buildings. The centre of town is also very pretty and was much less damaged by WWII than Berlin.

along a busy main road a wall that formed part of the old berlin wall maintains its original graffiti. The famous “My God, Help Me to Survive This Deadly Love” showing Leonid Brezhnev and Erich Honecker kissing is displayed here.

If you can find it (it is near the ‘Goldfischteich’ not far from the Soviet War memorial) there is a statue of the three German composers which was the only object left standing in the Tiergarten after the battle of Berlin. It was restored but still shows signs of the bullet holes from the conflict around it.
