Built nearly six hundred years ago by one of Ireland's greatest chieftans, Cormac MacCarthy, and has been attracting attention ever since. Over the last few hundred years, millions have flocked to Blarney making it a world landmark and one of Ireland's greatest treasures. Now that might have something to do with the Blarney Stone, the legendary Stone of Eloquence, found at the top of our tower. Kiss it and you'll never again be lost for words. There are those who think that you come to Blarney Castle only to see the Stone. But most leave knowing that the Blarney Stone is only a part of our attraction.

At the museum, visitors can view the Queenstown Story, which is an exhibition that tells about the origins, history, and legacy of Cobh. You can retrace the steps of the people who left from Cobh in coffin ships, early steamers, and eventually great ocean liners. Exhibits allow visitors to see the conditions on board the early emigrant ships and to experience what life was like on board convict ships leaving

The Jameson Experience is located in Midleton, Co. Cork. This distillery operated for 150 years, from 1825 until 1975, when the workers clocked off on a Friday in July, to start work in the new Midleton Distillery the following Monday. Thankfully, the old distillery was kept intact - and beautifully preserved - it is now one of the most striking and interesting tourist attractions in Ireland. Some of the original buildings date back to 1795, built as a mill before being converted for use as a distillery. The water wheel, which once operated all the machinery at the distillery, still turns and operates the cogs and wheels in in the Mill Building.

Clonakilty is a busy market town in West Cork located close to several popular seaside resorts such as Inchadoney. With its beautifully maintained floral displays in the Summer Clonakilty is a joy to explore. Local planning authorities have encouraged the use of traditional hand painted signs with a special emphasis on the Irish language on business premises in the town. Its Roman Catholic Church is very impressive, with fine glass and mosaics. Michael Collins, one of the great heroes of the 1916-1922 period, was born at Woodfield, nearby. He was General of the Free State Army. The small West Cork Museum in Clonakilty has many mementos of the hero.

Cork is a city with a very rich historical and archaeological heritage much of it still in evidence today. Part of this heritage Cork City Gaol is located 2km n/w from Patrick’s Street and while the magnificent castle like building is now a major and unique visitor attraction, this Gaol once housed 19th century prisoners. Visitors get a fascinating insight into day to day prison life at a time when the high walls ensured no escape and denied law abiding citizens the opportunity to see one of the finest examples of Ireland’s architectural heritage.
