Elegant but relaxed Japanese spa nestled in the foothills off Hyde Park Rd. on the way to the ski area. We highly recommend reserving a private tub. The common tub used to be wonderful but it was redone and ruined (in our view and the view of many other locals). However, there is still a common tub for women. The private tubs are heavenly, as are the massages.

Ten Thousand Waves

The private tubs are heavenly, as are the massages.
North of Espanola and about 40 minutes from our place, Ojo Caliente is a sprawling complex of hot mineral pools and includes one large swimming pool. A pleasant and somewhat funkier alternative to the more fussy Ten Thousand Waves, but very comfortable for everyone, including families.

Small tours of O'Keefe's home and studio. The home and studio are beautiful, the tour very informative, and the setting spectacular. From here it's a short drive north to her other residence at Ghost Ranch, and to Plaza Blanca.

Everyone goes here and you should too, although it's become a bit blighted over the years by tourism. The church -- inside and out -- is beautiful, however. Be sure to visit the Vigil Market/Potrero Trading Post gift shop. From here you can follow the "High Road" north through Cordova (wood carving center) Truchas (drop-dead views and wonderful art galleries), and Las Trampas (beautiful historical church) all the way to Taos.

The only restaurant in Tesuque, just minutes from our place. Excellent breakfasts and fine northern-New Mexico menu throughout the day, plus they've got a brick pizza oven. Ample outdoor seating in covered patio. They also have a small market.

We're very fussy about our Indian food. We've visited the country twice and cook a lot of Indian food at home. This place is the real thing and almost everything we've had here is excellent. Spicy like northern-New Mexico, so it fits the food vibe in Santa Fe.

Just a short walk directly across the road at the Four Seasons Rancho Encantado resort. Elegant and with gorgeous views. We often go here for brunch but the dinners are getting great reviews. There is also food served in the bar, which is beautiful, too. Full spa facilities.
