The tubes were produced by skilled technicians and glassworkers who formed molten glass batches, and then stretched them to the top of the Little Joe Tower using a cable system. This formed a long, continuous tube of hot glass. After cooling, the tubes were cut to desired lengths for thermometers. Today, it stands as a historical landmark in Corning’s skyline and a prominent icon throughout the city.

The winery's founder, Dr. Konstantin Frank introduced vinifera (classic European grape varieties) to the region starting a winemaking renaissance in the region. Without the contributions of Dr. Frank, the Finger Lakes wine region would not be where it is today. The winery was established in 1962 and is now in its fourth generation of Frank family ownership.
