Balboa Park
Huge park next to the San Diego Zoo with lots of museums.
This is probably my favorite hike along the beach. I recommend parking in the Torrey Pines South Beach Lot. Walk up N Torrey Pines Park Rd until you reach the first parking lot on the right. Follow the signs for the Beach Trail and hike down to Flat Rock for some great photo ops and scenic views. You can now enjoy a casual walk up the beach (If you're facing the water turn right) from Flat Rock back to the South Beach Parking Lot. This route avoids hiking back up the hill from the beach. Be sure to wear proper footwear and don't forget the sunscreen!

Hillcrest is affectionately known as the Gayborhood of San Diego. With plenty of LGBT friendly bars mostly situated on Univerisity Avenue, this area is very walkable and has lots of good food options.

North Park is located near Hillcrest and has lots of good food and bars. When people are looking for lots of food options I usually tell them to check out North Park and Hillcrest.

If you're looking for Downtown nightlife this is the area for you. With the majority of the bars and night clubs situated off 4th, 5th, and 6th this place is Little Black Dress city on the weekends. I highly recommend using a RideShare if you plan on going out in this area even if you have a car.
