Hiking and Viewpoints
Mid-island. Need a 4x4 or high-clearance to get up here but well worth the trip! If you can't drive it, it's walkable - plan 2-3h to get to the top from where most cars stop.

Sound End. Tallest peak on Salt Spring. A looong bumpy drive up the unassumed Musgrave Rd to Mount Tuam Road (follow signs for the Retreat.) Or, you can hike the logging roads to the peak (challenging). Best views on the island of Mount Baker and Vancouver Island, but not for novices.

Sound End. Tallest peak on Salt Spring. A looong bumpy drive up the unassumed Musgrave Rd to Mount Tuam Road (follow signs for the Retreat.) Or, you can hike the logging roads to the peak (challenging). Best views on the island of Mount Baker and Vancouver Island, but not for novices.
North End. An easy 1h hike to the top, stunning views of Samsun Narrows and up island (you can even see the cottage, if you squint...!)

Probably the warmest ocean water on Salt Spring, flat and sandy(ish)! Popular family beach close to the facilities at Vesuvius Bay. Park on Langley Street then go down a flight of stairs to the beach. Amateur geologists will find some fascinating rock formations. Great sunsets!

Probably the warmest ocean water on Salt Spring, flat and sandy(ish)! Popular family beach close to the facilities at Vesuvius Bay. Park on Langley Street then go down a flight of stairs to the beach. Amateur geologists will find some fascinating rock formations. Great sunsets!

One of the best evening beaches to watch the sun set. Warm swimming, sand with rocky outcroppings and few private places at the ends. A bit of a steep descent near the end of the path down. Look for the Channel Ridge trail marker on the non-ocean side of Sunset; the beach marker is south of that ~300m on the other side.
