There is a great walk around the base of Mt Maunganui - you can also climb to the top if you're feeling energetic. It's a great place - either around the base, or from the top, to watch cruise ships coming and going, and to see the sweep of the bay. Parking is at a premium around that area in the summer though so be prepared to drive around a little - or take a bus from the road outside our house.

This is a stunning little township with great beach access and interesting coastline. Maketu pies are famous in this area. There is a lifesaver team on duty during regular hours over summer.

This is GREAT beach. Across the road from the Domain are several takeaway shops - you can get fish and chips or many other takeaways in the small center that has good parking. Swim between the flags for safe swimming.

Tay Street Beach has changing facilities and is a Life Guarded beach. Lots of surfing and swimming all along the Mt Maunganui beach front.

This is a great place for the children to play, for BBQs and picnics. There is a boat ramp and access for people to the water - only good when the tide is in.
