Te Waikoropupū Springs are the largest freshwater springs in New Zealand, the largest cold water springs in the Southern Hemisphere and contain some of the clearest water ever measured. On a sunny day, the springs show off their clarity and gorgeous turquoise colour. The short walk to the springs from the car park takes about 20 minutes, though you could spend longer if you were so inclined. As tempting as the water looks, contact with the water is forbidden in any form. Enjoy their beauty, but please do not contaminate it!

Milnethorpe Park is suitable for all ages. Full of pleasant bush walks and crisscrossing tracks, it's a great escape from the heat of summer. Between the native bush and the birdlife, there is a lot to look at and listen to. There are several entry points along the beach, SH60 and from Nelson Street. The tracks are relatively flat aside from natural obstructions and tree roots, so young walkers can enjoy the shorter walks. I generally wouldn't recommend taking a buggy, but a carrier would work if you want the option of giving littler legs a break. There are hidden sculptures along the way, a range of bird and marine life to look at, and plenty of places to build a fort or let your imagination run wild! When you've had your fun in the bush, take a stroll along the gorgeous sand beach or hang out and build a sand castle. Bring snacks and drinks with you, as the closest shop is a jaunt up the road in Collingwood. There is a park toilet available at the bottom of Kendal Street near the access point to the inlet and river mouth. Milnethorpe Park is free to explore, but donations are appreciated and can be made at the donation boxes located near the car parks.

The Grove is a pretty magical place to visit. Roundtrip walk takes about 40 minutes and is relatively well kept with a gentle incline. The track makes its way easily upwards to a viewing platform through a series of limestone blocks, some sculpted into wonderful shapes by water. The tentacle-like roots of northern rātā trees that hang down many of the blocks create an eerie atmosphere. Nīkau palms are also a feature of the reserve. The Grove Scenic Reserve is about 8 km east of Takaka. At Clifton, turn off Abel Tasman Drive into Clifton Road, then into Rocklands Road. There is a small car park and picnic area about 1 km from Clifton.

Tata Beach is absolutely stunning! It is arguably one of the better beaches in Golden Bay for swimming as the beach drops off more quickly into the water allowing for deeper water access much sooner than on some of the other GB beaches. It is worth noting that Tata has courser sand so it's recommended to bring beach sandals/shoes if you don't fancy some natural exfoliation! You can also rent kayaks at the beach here.

Take the walk across rolling farmland to Whakariki Beach and be awed by the striking landforms, arches, and caves. If you're lucky, you'll see seals and a wide variety of bird life as you walk the soft sand beach. This is a great place to take a picnic on a calm day, just make sure to pickup all your rubbish!

The golden beaches, granite cliffs, and moderate tramps are just some of the many features of Abel Tasman National Park. You can choose to go for a day trip or for a multi-day trek, arranging water taxis as needed in order to reach the sections of your choosing.

Kahurangi is New Zealand's second largest national park, and as such offers a huge range of walks for the adventurous and more experienced tramper. There is a robust network of well-maintained trails and huts, but the majority of the park is wilderness.
