Our favourite restaurants.
We are both foodies and love to eat out. Difficult to recommend eateries as John is a good cook and we eat very well at home. So eating out remains a challenge. But these are a few of the places we like to go to.
This restaurant is in the village where we live in Fontevraud l'Abbaye. (4 kms from Montsoreau) It is also an hotel so can get busy in the summer. The interior is beautiful and in the summer you can sit on the terrace overlooking the village centre. The food has always been very good, well presented and consistent.

Its not really the chateau that we recommend, although beautiful, it is the stunning gardens. Laid out like a glorified 'potager' with formal planting, mixed with garden veg and flowers. A large lake with swans and a garden with perennial flowers, more like an English garden. Plenty of walks with stunning views over the garden.

Beautiful chateau set on the edge of this pretty town with bars and restaurants. Lovely formal gardens and in the summer they have the 'son et lumiere' in the evenings.

Not a Chateau... but a beautiful Abbey built in the 11th century. One of the largest surviving monastic cities from the Middle Ages. Art installations, lovely gardens. There is a café and brassiere and a Michelin star restaurant.
