My Favourite Restaurants

These are some of my favourite restaurants to eat, both in Weymouth and the surrounding areas. The standard at all the establishments is high and I have had some amazing times there. I hope you will too if you decide to try any of them!! It would be very advisable to pre-book all of these as they all get very busy and booked up to avoid your disappointment.

This has to be my all time favourite!! The Station Kitchen is situated in a converted railway carriage at the platform of the old West Bay Station, they have the loveliest staff there and after a drink in the former waiting room, you are shown to your table within the converted carriage. You should google it to appreciate the quirky and fabulous features this truly is a one off place and I have NEVER had a bad meal there, it is excellent specialising in using locally sourced, seasonal produce. It really is a delight!

The Hive Beach Café is located right on the beach at Burton Bradstock on the Jurassic Coast. With far reaching views across Lyme Bay and Chesil Beach. It's the perfect location to enjoy fresh, local seafood, homemade cakes or just a simple cup of tea. They use locally sourced, sustainable ingredients and support local suppliers wherever possible. When available they serve fish straight from the very shoreline you’ll be eating on. As a result, their comprehensive menu slowly evolves through the seasons. Now in it's 27th year of trading, the cafe has become a popular and well established eatery favoured by locals and holiday makers alike. With our sister cafe 'The Watch House Cafe' in West Bay in it's 8th year and our most recently opened restaurant 'The Club House' along the coast in West Bexington, the Hive brand has spread along the rugged West Dorset coastline over the years, always offering quality seafood infused menus in some of the finest locations.

Famed for ITV's Broadchurch, West Bay is a classic harbour town featuring stunning golden cliffs. A great spot to see the Jurassic Coast in all its glory.

You cannot come to Weymouth without having a walk along the Esplanade and a paddle on our beautiful beach! Weymouth Beach is a gently curving arc of sand in Weymouth Bay, beside the town of Weymouth in Dorset, England. Immediately adjacent to the beach is The Esplanade. The beach is a popular destination for sea bathing, and was frequented by King George III during times of illness. The king named Weymouth his 'first resort' and made bathing fashionable there. George III was advised to take the waters after his first bout of porphyria.

Also another tourist attraction. Sandsfoot Castle, also known historically as Weymouth Castle, is an artillery fort constructed by Henry VIII near Weymouth, Dorset. It formed part of the King's Device programme to protect against invasion from France and the Holy Roman Empire, and defended the Weymouth Bay anchorage. The stone castle had an octagonal gun platform, linked to a residential blockhouse, and was completed by 1542 at a cost of £3,887. Earthwork defences were built around the landward side of the castle, probably in 1623. Sandsfoot saw service during the English Civil War, when it was held by Parliament and Royalists in turn during the conflict. It survived the interregnum but, following Charles II's restoration to the throne, the fortress was withdrawn from military use in 1665

The village of Fleet lies close to the lagoon of the same name. Beyond the Fleet is the famous bank of Chesil Beach where treacherous currents and a strong undertow have been the cause of the loss of many lives following shipwrecks. Some of the shipwrecks probably initially had many survivors, but few so strong as to survive the strength of nature. It is the village of Fleet, this part of Chesil Beach and the Fleet lagoon, which was made famous by the novel of smuggling by J. Meade Faulkner, "Moonfleet" published in 1898. On 24 November 1824 a huge storm whipped up the seas along this part of the south coast. Many places along the coast suffered severe flooding and damage to property. With stunning views and beautiful walks The Fleet is a beautiful attraction. Weymouth Esplanade was destroyed by it and nearby the village of Fleet suffered a fate it has never known before or since. The sea was so swollen and the winds so strong, that the waves were sent hurling over the Chesil bank, beyond the Fleet lagoon and into the village, destroying most of what lay in its path. The small church at Fleet, lying close to the lagoon, suffered badly as the sea came crashing over the bank. The nave of the old church was completely demolished. All that remains today is a tiny church, with a few gravestones in the churchyard. Looking almost lost now, it stands behind the end of a row of cottages on its own. Well worth a visit

Abbotsbury Swannery is the only managed colony of nesting mute swans in the world. It is situated near the village of Abbotsbury in Dorset, England, 14 kilometres west of Weymouth on a 1-hectare site around the Fleet Lagoon protected from the weather of Lyme Bay by Chesil Beach. The colony can number over 600 swans with around 150 pairs. Written records of the swannery’s existence go back to 1393 but it probably existed well before that, and is believed to have been set up by Benedictine monks in the eleventh century.

The Abbotsbury Subtropical Gardens is a visitor attraction near the village of Abbotsbury, Dorset, southern England. They are Grade I listed in the National Register of Historic Parks and Gardens. The garden originates in 1765. In the late eighteenth century, the Fox-Strangeways family built a new house on the location; when it was burnt down in 1913, they returned to their family seat at Melbury House, but the walled garden was maintained—it remains in the ownership of the family. Since then, particularly after the contributions of the 4th Earl of Ilchester, the gardens have developed into an 8 hectares site with exotic plants, many of which were newly discovered species when they were first introduced. There are formal and informal gardens, with woodland walks and walled gardens; in addition, the gardens also contain certain "zones" that exhibit plants from different geographical areas.
