Small greasy spoon near O'Connell Street. Cheap and cheerful. Nice staff. Don't expect anything special, but you'll be well fed for less than €10.

This is the place to go for brunch in Dublin City Centre. They do a range of dishes inspired by Middle Eastern cuisine. Good options for vegans and vegetarians. You will not be disappointed.

Parks & Nature

Laid out in the 18th century as a private park at the centre of one of Dublin's most fashionable neighbourhoods, the park fell into neglect during the 20th century. The area around the square reached a low point in the middle of the century, when property developers wanted to tear down most of the townhouses and replace them with office blocks; architectural enthusiasts, local residents and the Guinness family managed to block it. A recent influx of foreign students and professionals has brought a new vitality to this architecturally beautiful part of Dublin. The film Once was shot in and around the square.

Funny little pond in the centre of Dublin. Many Dubliners don't know that it exists. An old reservoir that's know just a duck pond. Good place for a conversation with yourself. There's the odd group of alcoholics sitting on the benches, but definitely safe during the day.

Entertainment & Activities

The third largest stadium in Europe and home to the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA). The stadium has been the venue for important events in Irish history. There are games of Hurling, Camogie and Gaelic football on most weekends during the summer months and occasional concerts. There's also a walkway above the stadium which offers views across Dublin Bay.

One of only two arthouse cinemas in the city. It's located on Smithfield Market Square, a long cobbled square originally laid out in the 17th century. The cinema is well designed with comfortable seats and well proportioned theatres and attracts a knowledgable clientele. You can order a glass of wine or a beer to take into the theatre.

The home of Irish film. They have a good program of foreign and independent film. There's a bar attached, but's it's nothing special.

Drinks & Nightlife

Part Irish dive bar, part Korean restaurant, the Hop House (also known as The Shakespeare) is a strange but charming pub in the middle of Dublin's unofficial Chinatown. The food is quite good and the dingy beer garden out the back often has the vibe of a slightly out of control house party. Not to everyone's taste.

A traditional pub just off Grafton Street. Away from the touristy Temple Bar area, this is the place to go for a chat. You can choose to drink in the lounge (the open bar), or the snug (a more private and intimate space) if you can find a seat. The bartenders all dress in white shirts and black dicky bows. Gets busy on Friday evening. No music, no tv.

A charming small pub in the centre of the city. There's a small snug (one table) by the entrance that has its own private access to the bar. Get there early to secure this coveted spot. They have a large collection of whisk(e)ys from around the world. Gets busy on Friday and Saturday evenings. Tv, no music. If you fancy something a bit more lively go next door to Doyle's.

Sightseeing

Beautiful Georgian Street. Belvedere House sits on the top of this road and is home to Belvedere College a private Jesuit school that has some famous alumni. James Joyce was enrolled here towards the end of the 19th century. It leads down to Parnell Street where you can catch the LUAS (tram) across town (from December 2017).

Shopping

The most upmarket shopping street in Dublin. The city doesn't have a large number of boutiques but most of the fanciest stores are in or around Grafton Street. You'll find the Brown Thomas department store here, which is Dublin's answer to Macy's, I guess!
