Food Scene
Some of the freshest food you'll find out there. Fresh. To. Death. Some of the most creative recipes in STL. So many vegetarian and vegan options, and the best part? A meal for one usually costs under $7. I recommend the double vegetarian biscuits and gravy, a side of blackened ham and a $2 cup of ginger iced coffee. They do, however, offer $1 never-ending coffee if you stay in the store. Hands down my favorite restaurant in STL.
My only qualm? Service can get a bit slow after lunch. The food makes it all worth the wait. For those not used to STL, make sure you park near the building.

Vista Ramen is one of the newest restaurants to smash into the STL scene. People have taken quite a liking to it, and seeing as it's a ramen place... who wouldn't? Lovely atmosphere and nice staff. You'll feel cool just walking into the place.
However, if you like authentic ramen this place is not for you, and if you like food that is under $10 - fahget about it!

The best part about the Buttery? You can taste it in the food. It's cheap, it's open late, and they're ready for you to come knocking down the diner door. Dingy? Yes? Perfect? In every way.

More than enough praise has been sung about this restaurant, but their inventive approach to Thai food always puts a warm feeling in my belly, or maybe it's the gigantic, super - no, quadruple sized spring rolls they let you customize and throw in my belly. The hot sauces are HOT, the kimchi soup is superb, and everything has a homemade air to it.

I'm from Austin, TX, and in my search to find a decently authentic Mexican restaurant in this city I stumbled upon El Bronco... and kept going back, as it's the most authentic AND the best. Lots to choose from, and lots of flavors of home to taste. While Cherokee Street is known for its South American population, El Bronco is the restaurant I most trust.

Another STL favorite with the locals. Mokabe's is unapologetically progressive and has the bumper stickers to shove in your face and prove it. Very nice and inclusive space for LGBTA+ folks, queer folks, or someone who wants to grab something to drink while they can also get a decent meal. Sit at the bar and feel like you're at the forefront of the resistance.

Is there nothing better than finding the best take out place in your city and then further finding out that they have almost every popular version of Eastern Asian drink you could desire? Nothing can describe all the class that glitters so delicately on top of this joint. Tiled ceilings above, original hardwood floors below, and a gentle, ambient lighting between. An art gallery/BBQ that pokes fun at capitalism? You do shock me! I hear the food is good. If attendances have anything to do with it, then it's really, really good. A recently opened Nepalese restaurant that matches, if not surpasses the best Nepalese food I've had in my life - and trust me, I've had plenty of those powerful, but beautifully subtle flavors. Not too cheap, but you'll receive about enough food to feed a small army. I can't recommend this place enough. Make sure you splurge on the sides - Masala Chai fills your belly with florid, warm spices, the Pickled Veggies are the perfect acid to cut through a meal, and the Rice Pudding had the milk chilled before serving, leading to a perfect palette cleanser to close the night. Or just order their fantastic sampler dish. It's well worth it.

3515 S Kingshighway BlvdA recently opened Nepalese restaurant that matches, if not surpasses the best Nepalese food I've had in my life - and trust me, I've had plenty of those powerful, but beautifully subtle flavors.
A mix of Nepalese, Korean, and Indian food that's served in a wonderful, warm atmosphere. This sort of place makes you feel as if you could lose yourself for hours in long conversations over tea and samosas. The fact that they serve Nepalese and Korean together is exciting, as it feels like the best of both worlds is presented to you! Not necessarily the best of the food from the countries presented, but a unique menu makes it worth it all. Their lunch buffet starts at 11:30-2:30 and is the best deal you can find!

Drinks & Nightlife
Absolutely, hands down, 100% my favorite bar in town. Rob, the owner, has set up a special jukebox to play some of his favorite tracks, and this is where the bar gets its name - all tracks are from the B-sides of albums. If that isn't enough of a hint, there's a giant, lit up "B" in the back to remind you where you're at. The drinks? The cheapest. His philosophy was to own a bar that he'd like to visit. There's arcade games in the corner, a fire pit out back, and a mirror in the bathroom that (apparently) it's your obligation to take a picture in front of. But seriously - it's dope. The cherry on top? The B-Side serves some incredible food - and you don't have to be drunk to recognize that.

Coffee shop by day, bar by night, but mostly? A music venue. There's a lot of eclectic bands that get booked there at Foam, and it's become one of the most popular venues in all of STL to visit. Locals approve. Predominately punk music - and that sort of revolving door.

What can I say about Earthbound? It really proves that some of the best typography and city sign aesthetics really do come out of STL. I've heard some people quote it as the best beer they've ever had, and while it fetches for a bit of a higher dollar, it's worth it. Progressive, new, and 100% unique.

There are good people here that just want to connect and engage the community. It's a bar (not the cheapest but not the most expensive), it's a music venue (good shows frequently), and it looks pretty hip.

People love this place for some reason. It's where people who are offbeat but not too sub-culture go to have a good time. All the staff members are super nice and the environment is pretty good. It's a local's favorite, for sure! If you like good whiskey, you'll like it here.

This one gets extra points for its definitely unique atmosphere and concept. Fortune Teller Bar likes to look like witchcraft has recently happened in the area, but surprisingly you can find a more middle-aged crowd who just like good drinks here. Absolutely a local favorite, and I would definitely not have any inhibitions going here no matter who you are. They even bring in tarot readers!

Though the name is unlisted, this bar is a favorite stop off for the locals of the working class Dogtown neighborhood who just reopened with style. Tamm Avenue Grill has a large selection of drinks, a large selection of food, and a large selection of games in the back. Fireplaces on the patio will keep you comfortable, and the large amount of seating will ensure that you'll never have to wait a moment!

Endless Planets is a record store that digs for superb, niche records. Some genres they'll specialize in are Japanese City Pop, Brazilian Afrobeat Groove, and Spirituals. Somehow, they're a favorite for local DJ's to dig for in the city. Really recommend going here if you're a music connoisseur

Great vintage and resale boutique! The clothing is curated and never breaks the budget. The store owner partners with African American business people to celebrate this diverse neighborhood. The shop just looks great. Highly recommend if you're a vintage hound.

Maven is the quirkiest soap shop you'll ever come across, and their scents are heavenly. Their soaps look like cakes - I know because I've been tempted to eat on in the past. Candles, bath bombs, deodorants, and more!

The second biggest green space inside a city, right behind Times Square. A really lovely park where old architecture still stands, about 5-10 minutes away from the home depending on how long traffic takes. I really suggest anyone take advantage of this if the weather is right.

Arts & Culture
Spooky! A very tumultuous history tormented this family of STL brewers back in the day. Their brewery looms nearby, now built up as studio and business spaces. They say this mansion is so haunted that some employees won't even enter rooms at specific times. A speakeasy was buried beneath the mansion in a cave - and, supposedly, a giant pool. I'd be willing to put up with a few ghosts if I just got to taste a bite of their delicious, traditional American lunch. Definitely a dress up event.
