Martell’s At The Red Fox.
Feels a little dated and a lot local. Good food, live music on the weekends (and a bit quiet during the week). They have a children’s menu. They’re a dinner-only place (or late lunch), opening at 1pm, except Sundays for brunch.

In the summer, stop by the Burger Barn. It’s basically a food truck, but they serve the best burgers in Vermont, and it’s so close! If it’s nice, eat at their picnic tables; otherwise, it’s a short drive back to the condo. One word of warning – the line doesn’t move fast, so be prepared to wait if you see one.

City/town information
Tons of options near and in Burlington. Walk up and down Church Street and find a place that looks good to eat. We like Sweetwaters, The Farmhouse, American Flatbread for dinner and Penny Cluse or the Swingin’ Pinwheel for breakfast or lunch, or head down to Pine Street and stop in Citizen Cider or Zero Gravity for drinks and food. Phish fans – stop in Nectars where the band cut its teeth.

In the 1900’s the Notch was used for smuggling when the U.S. Congress passed the law prohibiting the sale of alcohol. Alcohol was smuggled through Smugglers’ Notch Pass and down to central and southern New England. The caves and caverns in the Notch were ideal for storing alcohol at approximately room temperature, while the smugglers were avoiding the revenue agents.
