Breakfast, brunch (incredible pancakes!), lunch, afternoon tea, coffee & cake, dinner, drinks.....Heller's Kitchen is a wonderful little independent bistro open throughout the day to suit what you fancy. Perfect location for before/after taking a walk up Blackford Hill or Arthur's Seat.

Apparently the 'real' cafe where JK Rowling wrote Harry Potter...we much prefer it to The Elephant Cafe which has taken this claim. Great food, quirky, vintage-y kitsch decor and lovely service. A nice place to have lunch, tea coffee and cake or pre-theatre dinner.

A little out of the way from The Shore, but a great place to relax, sunbathe and have a BBQ when the sun appears.

Right in the centre of the city, the gardens are a nice place to relax right underneath the sights of the castle. A nice place to enjoy a coffee to go or ice cream before heading off to your next sightseeing spot.

A much loved place to wander in Edinburgh. Also has some of the best views overlooking the city. The cafes in the gardens are very overpriced so it's worth packing a picnic or walking in to Cannonmills or Stockbridge to find somewhere a little more reasonable (and better!).

Arguably the best views of Edinburgh because you get to see Arthur's Seat from the top too! Great, easy hiking trail for all the family and near Morningside and Marchmont where you can find plenty of cafes and nice places to grab coffee.

No trip to Edinburgh is complete without a walk up Arthur's Seat. The views are incredible. There are a variety of different paths if you prefer a scramble up or a leisurely stroll.
