Oegstgeest
De naam “Oegstgeest”: Het gedeelte “geest” in de naam verwijst naar “Geestgronden”, waarvan weinig over is gebleven omdat die in de 17e eeuw werden afgegraven ten behoeve van de stadsuitbreidingen van Leiden. De oudste aangetroffen spelling is afkomstig uit de 10e eeuw en luidt: “Osgeresgeest”. Later is dit verbasterd tot Oegstgeest en Oostgeest. Sport en recreatie: Oegstgeest kent de volgende sportverenigingen: voetbal, cricket, golf, korfbal, waterpolo, hockey, tennis, volleybal, basketbal, tafeltennis& zwembad.
