Sightseeing

Alnwick Castle is home to the Duke of Northumberland and instantly recognisable as Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardy for those who are Harry Potter fans. Open from March – November and has something for everyone – from film tours, historical exhibitions, or impressive architecture. At the entrance of the Castle is the iconic Alnwick Gardens. Several themed plantings have been designed around a central water cascade and has won several prestigious awards. With so much to see and do, it’s hard to know where to start but it will certainly keep you (and the kids) busy all day long.

Coldstream Museum for the military enthusiast - The Guards Museum in Coldstream tells the story of the five regiments of Foot Guards who have the honour and duty of protecting the Sovereign and the Royal Palaces from 1660 to the present day. The museum is located in the centre of Coldstream in the Market Square – the site of General Monck’s headquarters before he marched on London in 1660 to restore the Stuart Monarchy. Coldstream sits on the Border between Scotland and England over the River Tweed and is most famous for being the home of the Coldstream Guards regiment in the British Army. Its location loans the town a rich military history, from Edward I’s invasion of Scotland in 1296 to the Wars of Scottish Independence to the Battle of Flodden.
