Food Scene

This is a fantastic and easy restaurant. It's big enough to hold a large group without reservations (generally), but feels intimate enough to have a romantic evening. Excellent food and desserts!

This is my favorite restaurant, owned by James Beard Award Winner, Vitaly Paley. Excellent food, and good for romantic occasions or more formal date-nights with friends. The bar is great, too, if you just want a glass of great wine.

Sightseeing

This historic home was owned by the founder of the local newspaper, The Oregonian. His family was adventurous (you'll find lots of photos of the family on Mt Hood!), and philanthropic. The house is filled with period furniture and art, and you'll enjoy the unique bathrooms, gorgeous kitchen, and architectural detail. The house is located up the hill (a vigorous 30 minute uphill walk, or 5 minute drive), with a picnic perfect lawn with views of all 3 mountains and downtown beneath you. This house is also situated along the famous Wildwood Trail, so you can hike from here to the zoo (bring a map!), or head north to hike the ridge just West of the Nob Hill Neighborhood!

A world famous garden, and home to many of my favorite, childhood memories. Wander through the gardens, with its large stage (which hosts open air plays and concerts in the summer), or is a great spot for a picnic. This garden is also the gateway to The Japanese Garden. You can find trails here, too, that lead all of the way up to the Portland Zoo (about an hour hike).

This trail wanders North-South along the western edge of the neighborhood, in Forest Park (the largest urban park in the nation!).

Shopping

Do you like salt, olive oil, vinegar, bitters and chocolate? Do you think, perhaps, "What more is there?" Then this store is for you. Definitely worth a visit. Then grab a glass of wine next door at The Fireside! Indeed, what else do you need?

Entertainment & Activities

This theatre is an independent Portland original. Showing arty or interesting films, you'll not be disappointed! The main theater has a balcony, and they've recently expanded to include two more screens. You'll enjoy local beer and pizza while watching!
