This restaurant used to be The Wave, and wow — what an improvement. They have tasty, innovative food and a raw bar outside on the patio. Their Ahi tuna appetizer is a standout. And the lobster roll was quite good, too. This is THE place to go in Marion.

We spent almost an entire day here once, hanging outside with old friends and ordering drinks and great big platters of seafood from the raw bar. You can watch the boats pass through the canal, play a few rounds of corn hole, or just sit, relax and chill. It's a popular place in Sandwich and the food is great. My Cape friends often ride their bikes along the canal and then meet up here afterwards.

Uncle Jon's has always been the go-to place for coffee, muffins, quiche, whatever. Over the years, if we checked in to the cottage late at night and didn't have time to hit the grocery store, one of us would make the short trip to Uncle Jon's the next morning and bring back breakfast for everyone. Definitely order the cranberry muffins if they have them. We also grab a quick breakfast on our way back to the airport after our vacation is over.

This cozy yet hip cafe offers nibbles and drinks. Service is warm and friendly. Marion old-timers may remember this as the former and much-loved Harriet’s Restaurant.

Turks is our go-to for a nice meal that’s close to home, and they have a small but high-quality fish market with competitive prices. The restaurant is always busy so be prepared to wait sometimes. Closed Tuesdays.

A great place to go on a rainy day. I haven't been for years but how much does a history museum change? It'll give you a better sense of what life was like back in the day, when whaling and fishing were major industries. Check out the restaurant nearby that used to be a bank.

A local gem highlighting the town’s fishing, whaling and farming history. Call for hours of operation.

I used to go XC skiing there when I lived on the Cape. If you can drag yourself away from the beach, it's a nice place to hike in the woods.

Grab your bike or sneakers and soak in the scenic vistas along this new trail. The path crosses a broad marsh and estuary that empties into Buzzards Bay.

Essentials
This is one of our favorite fish markets — it's worth the short drive to New Bedford. They have good prices on lobster and have all kinds of seafood, fresh off the boat. In fact, they are right on a cove. Their swordfish was the best we've had in years.

If you gotta do laundry, this is the place to go. It's modern and comfortable enough. But don't go on a sunny day if you can help it. That's just too sad.

Shopping
This scenic little gem is on Front Street, which is Marion's real main street. Step back in time as it's an old-school grocery store with delightfully creaky floors and carries some essentials — milk, eggs, deli sandwiches, wine, etc. Bring cash; I don't think they take debit or credit cards.

Mimi’s has been a gift shop under one name or another for as long as I can remember. Their jewelry is absolutely lovely. Look for their (late summer?) sidewalk sale.

Drinks & Nightlife
We have some old friends on the Cape, so we sometimes head over for the day or evening to hang out and catch up. The Cape is always great for a day trip, but don't try to drive over on a Friday afternoon/evening or Saturday morning. There's too much traffic heading over from the greater Boston area. Falmouth and Sandwich are both great destinations.
