This is one of the most beautiful state parks in the United States. It has pristine beaches some of which are private and quiet, a flowing river from an inland lake (Hamlin which has great fishing to Lake Michigan where visitors float leisurely from one to the other, massive dunes with magnificent vistas, deep woods and great hiking.

Ludington State Park Beach

The dunes rides are as much a natural history tour as a dune thrill ride. The driver guides are well versed in the area and natural history, and animal and plant life. This is both thrilling, fun and beautiful. Until I took a tour I thought this was just a cheap thrill tourist ride, but it is really something much more special.

Mac Wood's Dune Rides

This is both thrilling, fun and beautiful. Until I took a tour I thought this was just a cheap thrill tourist ride, but it is really something much more special.
When I want to relax on a quiet, unpopulated beach I head down Ridge Road to Cedar Point Park which is a county park on the south side of the Pentwater channel about 1.7 miles down the road. It provides a beautiful view of the large sweep from around that area near the south point to Ludington. This is a great way to experience Lake Michigan in a very natural environment away from the crowds.

Essentials
Locally owned, Cenzo's has not just essentials but nice wines and beers, cheese, seafood and a better food. They also have some prepared foods for the beach or other outings. A very friendly staff, walkable from the house.

We originally did not want to have a Dollar type store in the immediate area, but now have to admit that this place has been very helpful. They are very smart about what they stock, and it seems that we can find just about anything. Comparing this to other stores of its kind, it has a much deeper and broader stock. We find things there that we never thought they would have. Great prices, convenient near the highway.

Entertainment & Activities
This is an amusement park of sorts, but very high quality in that is is beautifully built into the woods, thoughtfully designed and is not the least bit honky tonk. It has it wonderful for kids of all ages with mini golf building smartly into the woods (parents love it too), a go cart race track that is also woven into the woods and well maintained, and a campground grilling areas that has a state park-like feel and arcade for kids. I don't like these type of places, but I love this one because it is beautifully done, like I described state park-like rather than a honky tonk amusement join.
