Sculpture Garden
“Behind Palazzo Pitti there is the wonderful Boboli Gardens. The Medici first took care of the arrangement, creating the Italian garden model that became an example for many European courts. The vast green surface, subdivided in a regular way, constitutes a veritable open-air museum, populated by ancient and Renaissance statues, adorned with caves, first of all the famous one by Bernardo Buontalenti, and large fountains, such as that of Neptune and Ocean. The subsequent Lorena and Savoy dynasties further enriched the structure, extending the boundaries that line the ancient city walls up to Porta Romana. The visit to Boboli completes the visit to the Pitti Palace and allows you to fully grasp the spirit of court life and at the same time enjoy the experience of a garden that is always renewed while respecting its tradition.”

“Piazzale Michelangelo is the most famous panoramic point in Florence, a splendid terrace overlooking the city named to one of the most important Florentine Renaissance artists: Michelangelo Buonarroti. The construction of the square was part of the urban renewal on the occasion of the election of Florence as the capital of Italy and in 1873 the construction sites were opened, inaugurating the square two years later. In the design of the architect Giuseppe Poggi, the entire square was to become a monument to Michelangelo: even the neoclassical loggia was proposed as a museum where all the works of the great artist present in Florence could be brought together. In the end the idea of a museum was no longer considered valid and in 1876 the lodge was immediately used as a cafe-restaurant. In the center of the square there is a monument composed of bronze copies of some of Michelangelo's works: the four allegories of the Medici chapels of San Lorenzo and the imposing David, who looks towards the hills opposite the city. The square is the Florentine panoramic terrace par excellence, a favorite destination for citizens and tourists who want to enjoy the beautiful Florence from a suggestive perspective.”

Art Museum
“The Academy was built in the 1784 when the Grand Duke of Tuscany Pietro Leopoldo reorganized the Academy of the Arts of Design, founded in 1563 by Cosimo I de'Medici, in the modern Academy of Fine Arts. The new institution occupied the rooms of the fourteenth century of San Matteo Hospital and those of the convent of San Niccolò di Cafaggio. The museum was enriched with the suppression of churches and convents ordered by Pietro Leopoldo in 1786 and by Napoleone Bonaparte in 1810. The decisive event in the history of the museum was the transfer of Michelangelo's David from Piazza della Signoria in August 1873. The most famous sculpture in the world waited nine years, kept in a wooden case, the conclusion of the construction of the Tribune designed by the architect Emilio De Fabris to welcome it. Today's Academy Gallery was established in 1882.”

“Purchased in 1550 by Cosimo I de Medici and by his wife Eleonora of Toledo to transform it into the new grand-ducal residence, Palazzo Pitti soon became the symbol of the consolidated power of the Medici over Tuscany. Palace of two other dynasties, the Habsburg-Lorraine (successors of the Medici from 1737) and of the Savoys, who inhabited it as royal of Italy since 1865, Palazzo Pitti still bears the name of its first owner, the Florentine banker Luca Pitti, who in the mid-fifteenth century wanted to build it - perhaps designed by Brunelleschi - beyond the Arno, at the foot of the Boboli hill.”

City Hall
“Florence's town hall is a very special one. Once the home of the Medici family, it's located right next to the Uffizi gallery and for this reason way too many people skip it :( From the quotes from Dante's Inferno engraved in the courtyard to the delicate 'grottesche' paintings on the ceilings, there are so many cool things to find in this ancient building that remains at the heart of Florence's political scene. Did you know there's even a secret passage in the maps room? I won't tell you where it is... but if you look close I'm sure you can find it!”

“Parco delle Cascine is the green lung of the city, a stone's throw from the center. The largest public park in Florence with an area of over 130 hectares running parallel to the Arno river. Characterized by a rich vegetation, by vast meadows, avenues and paths, it is the ideal place to practice sports (freely or using the numerous equipped facilities) or to spend free time enjoying the nature and the quiet of the area. "Le Cascine" is also a market place (every Tuesday morning), venue for events (cultural and trade fair events) and much more.”

Church
“The Basilica of Santa Croce in the square of the same name in Florence, is one of the largest Franciscan churches and one of the greatest achievements of Gothic in Italy, and has the rank of minor basilica. Santa Croce is a prestigious symbol of Florence, the meeting place of the greatest artists, theologians, religious, writers, humanists and politicians, who determined, in good and bad times, the identity of the late medieval and Renaissance city. Inside, they also hosted famous figures from the history of the Church such as Saint Bonaventura, Pietro di Giovanni Olivi, Saint Anthony of Padua, Saint Bernardino of Siena, Saint Louis of Anjou. It was also a place of welcome for popes such as Sixtus IV, Eugene IV, Leo X, Clement XIV.”
