"A treehouse, a freehouse, a secret you and me house, a high up in the leafy branches, cosy as can be house" -- Shel Silverstein
The treehouse is indeed a cozy little place perched on four maples 30 feet above a blanket of ferns. Access is by a ramp 70 ft. from the main house, where you'll have a private bathroom with shower. This quiet place in the woods has heat, electricity, and a small refrigerator. The main floor has a single bed, or CLIMB THE LADDER to the loft with a queen sized futon and down comforter. Enjoy the comfy reading rocker or sit on the deck and gaze at Mt. Abraham and the Green Mountain National Forest. The hot tub is a sweet new addition to the place.
For those less adventurous, there is a guestroom in the main house with a double bed. We have no pets and are very neat and tidy but you can bring your dog if you want. All linens and little complimentary toiletries are provided, and you'll enjoy a generous continental breakfast in the sunny dining room in the morning.

Our stay at Fern Forest far exceeded my already-high expectations. The space was incredible, the food was beyond delicious, and the company? Simple amazing. We can't wait to return!
We loved our stay in the tree house! If you have the opportunity to stay there, take it. The tree house was very cozy, their breakfast was delicious and they were great hosts. We look forward to another stay there sometime soon! And make sure to take advantage of their hot tub and dining recommendations and you'll be glad you did.
Sleeping in the treehouse was an awesome and inspiring experience. Meeting H and Ellie was just as rewarding. The breakfast was worth the price of admission too. Enjoy
Wow, where do we begin. From waking up to a wonderful breakfast, to great conversation and staying in a lovely treehouse, we wish we the weekend could've lasted longer.
Ellie and H made delicious (gluten-free!) waffles and cornbread muffins, and offered some of the best locally grown food we have encountered.
After eating a delicious dinner at one of their suggested restaurants, the Bobcat Cafe in Bristol (about 12 minutes away), we got to relax in the hot tub while it was snowing. We could not have imagined a more perfect evening.
The lovely couple were so warm and welcoming from the second you meet them. We wish we could spend every weekend in the Fern Forest!
Christy and Tim, thanks for opening us to all things Iowa. I took the "Where should you live" quiz and guess where it decided I should live...Iowa! Guess we'll be going through on our westward journey. It was a true delight to get to know you both, and we hope to see you again soon!
Absolutely wonderful stay with H and Ellie! The treehouse is magical, a lovely place for a weekend getaway. It is immaculate and very charming and a great vibe. H and Ellie are incredible hosts and made my boyfriend and I feel right at home. Highly recommended!
Luke and I had an amazing time. H and Ellie are great hosts- they made dinner reservations for us, invited us to watch the Patriots game with them, and cooked us a delicious breakfast! This is my second time visiting and I will definitely be back for a third visit.
Thank you so much H and Ellie for welcoming us.
It was such a fun adventure sleeping at the treehouse, we will definitely be back. Wonderful meeting you both and sharing our lives. You are welcome in Brooklyn and Paris anytime. - J & T
Wow!!! What a weekend, H and Ellie are such great hosts! From the wine, cheese and crackers, breakfast, dinner reservations, the hot tub, to the converstation, it was all perfect! H and Ellie can't wait to come visit again! Next time we will be prepared with stories, or at least Pete will! Thanks for a wonderful weekend!

The perfect escape from it all.
Ellie and H were the kindest, most welcoming hosts. Our stay, although quite short, exceeded our expectations. From sharing a glass of wine in the evening, to H's famous waffles in the morning, we have never felt more welcomed!
Can't wait to return again for a longer stay, and reconnect with such wonderful people and amazing accommodations!
We once again had a wonderful time at the treehouse. This year we brought our children, and even though it wasn't the relaxing retreat it was last year, it was still a memorable experience. Both my children took an immediate liking to H and Ellie (who wouldn't?), and both H and Ellie were patient and kind with my inquisitive, busy offspring.
Both times we have left the treehouse feeling like family and are
already planning our next trip up there. I am still planning on sending H some candy, and Ellie has already got me thinking about what to make for dinner our next trip. Please remember if you have to come to Sterling for anything in the future, our home is open to you! Peace! Kim
