It's cliche but true, every bad review has a story behind it. So first let me say keep reading reviews, they're mostly good and corroborate what I'm describing in my listing.
This guy booked my listing last minute, and here's why, another airbnb host cancelled on him last minute. That' s unfortunate, but he reached out to me with the help of airbnb support. They tried to help him find an immediate replacement. He sent me three messages asking to book but I never responded...because I myself was on vacation in Las Vegas. I arranged my schedule and vacation around my guests and the timing worked out to where I was vacant for my return from my vacation. I left the date available in case someone would want it prior to my vacation, but it remained vacant. It wasn't until I was on my last few hours of vacation preparing to return to L.A. when I got a request to book. I was going to decline the request when I recieved an email from airbnb support basically pleading with me to approve Marlin's request. I explained to airbnb support I wasn't in LA, and I wouldn't be able to honor the standard check in time because no one is in LA to clean the unit since guests checked out the same day Marlin wanted to check in. I told airbnb support the only way I could host him was if he understood he would have to check in later. After some more discussion he agreed and claimed he understood the unit would not be ready at the time he wanted. I agreed to let him drop off his luggage prior to my arrival to LA.
I hurried my timeline to get home, once I arrived home, I expected to find luggage in the unit. There was none. I quickly cleaned the unit and reached out to Marlin to inform him the unit was ready. Since I never saw luggage I assumed he never arrived. After my notice to him, he never replied. I called his phone number and he answered. I told him the unit was ready and he then told me they're not going to stay there. That they had arrived and one member of his group had such bad allergies to dogs that they couldn't stay there. I asked him if he knew I had dogs prior to booking it, and he said yes. I asked if he told the other members in his group, he said he didn't know one member was so allergic. I said that's unfortunate, but that the listing clearly stated the listing had dogs. He said he knew and that them leaving wasn't my fault, but simply a health reason.
It's true the unit was not in great shape when they arrived, it wasn't supposed to be because people just checked out that day, and Marlin knew the unit wouldn't be clean when he walked in.
The truth is, and Marlin never told anyone, but I learned from my dog walker that Marlin arrived while my dog walker was taking my dogs out for a walk. Apparently, they were deathly afraid of my dogs, apparently demanding my dog walker to put the dogs inside my house while they "check in". Marlin never told this story to airbnb, I know because they never asked me about it. Marlin never told me this story either. Of course my dog walker told me what happened.
Then he walked in, saw the poor state of the unit, and basically turned right around, and left. Then he called airbnb and claimed to them that the unit wreaked of dog feces, and that there was dog feces on the ground in the unit.
He never mentioned that to me. After we ended our phone conversation, I get a call from airbnb support. They tell me Marlin wants a full refund. I ask them why. They say because of the dogs and his ridiculous claim of feces. I said no, and here's why, "YOU MUST LOVE DOGS TO STAY HERE". If you arrive and decide you don't want to stay here because you don't like my dogs than I'm not refunding you because it states everywhere that you must love dogs. I issue refunds for reasons that merit a refund, but not because you arrived decided my place was not adequate enough for what you wanted, then left, and then demand a refund, after I provided full disclosure of what the guest should expect upon arrival.
Airbnb agreed with me, and this guy ended up having to pay for the night, but didn't stay here. That would make anyone salty, but his misfortune is not my fault, and his impatience is not my dictator. The unit wasn't ready, as promised, and sometimes no matter how many times they read it, people are afraid of my dogs. No one has ever been harmed in any way by my dogs. Not one guest, not one review claims my dogs are bad dogs. In fact quite the opposite. So keep reading, forget this review it's written by a guy who tried to get something for nothing from me and unfortunately came up short. I don't want that to happen to you, so hey, make sure you're not afraid of dogs. Pit bull lovers are encouraged to stay here.
