Northwood Hideaway offers comfortable self-catering accommodation in a one bedroomed self-contained annexe at our family home.

Located in the North Shropshire village of Northwood, parts of Northwood House date back to the 19th century, possibly even earlier. It was once the home of a local mill owner, but when we bought the property in 2005 it was uninhabitable. We have lovingly renovated, remodelled and restored it, including reinstating some original features that had been lost.

Boligen
Northwood Hideaway provides spacious accommodation comprised of a comfortable lounge, well equipped kitchen with dining facilities, a double bedroom with plenty of storage, and a bathroom, with bath and shower over.

Outside there is a secluded patio area for guests' private use, with outdoor dining facilities and seating. A firepit and BBQ are available on request. Around the patio are colourful plants and shrubs.

The accommodation is Walker and Cyclist Friendly. Drying facilities for wet clothes can be provided and lockable bike storage is also available.

Northwood village has a well regarded dining pub, the Horse & Jockey, which is walkable. There are a further two excellent pubs located in nearby Loppington and Welshampton.

Day-to-day needs can be met in the local market town of Wem or there are several farm shops and local producers that you can visit or that could deliver.

Northwood is an ideal base for a short relaxing countryside break, or a longer holiday where guests want to explore further afield, whether in Shropshire, Cheshire or over the border in Wales.

Gæsteadgang
Guests will have access to a secluded private patio area, where they can sit and enjoy a beer, glass of wine, or dine al fresco. Blankets, a fire pit and small barbeque are available for guests to use, on request.

Whilst Northwood Hideaway has it's own entrance, please note that access to the annexe and patio is through part of the main garden at the property.

Beliggenhed

Northwood, Storbritannien

Northwood is a small scattered village located on the English/Welsh border just 15 miles north of the historic Shropshire County town of Shrewsbury, the birthplace of Charles Darwin.

For day-to-day needs, Northwood is nestled in the midst of three pretty market towns - Wem, Ellesmere and Whitchurch. All are accessible by car.

The closest is historic Wem, 4 miles away. Wem has provided a central point for local trade since Saxon times and its weekly market still runs every Thursday. Wem is now the home of the modern Sweet Pea which was developed by Henry Eckford, the 19th Century nurseryman. Every year Eckford’s contribution to gardening is celebrated at the Sweet Pea Show which, along with the annual carnival, brings a riot of colour to the town. Wem has good train links to Shrewsbury and Birmingham beyond, and Whitchurch, Nantwich, Crewe, Chester, Liverpool and Manchester.

Six miles away is Ellesmere, the centre of Shropshire's Lake District, which has nine picturesque meres (lakes) with scenic walks, fishing and boating. Colemere is the closest of the meres to the property, and is walkable.

Whitchurch, just 8 miles away, has many splendid buildings dating from Medieval, Tudor and Georgian times. Whitchurch is amongst the oldest continually inhabited towns in the country. Within the town are small independent shops and some lovely eateries, and there's the pleasantly wooded Victoria Jubilee Park and picturesque Memorial Garden.

Just outside Whitchurch, on the Wem Road, is Alderford Lake.

The historic Fenn's, Whixall and Bettisfield Mosses National Nature Reserve, which straddles the border between England and Wales, is also within walking distance. This 2,300 acre site is renowned for its mosses and raised bogs, and is home to a huge variety of birds.

This property in Northwood is in the perfect location, offering guests the opportunity to explore locally on foot or by cycle, or to visit places further afield such as medieval Shrewsbury, Ludlow and Chester, the Ironbridge World Heritage Site, Wroxeter Roman Ruins, Erddig Hall, Chirk Castle, Llangollen or stunning Snowdonia and the North Wales coast.

My husband, Paul and I live in rural North Shropshire with our grown up son and daughter, and our rescue cat Molly. Having lived and worked in Berkshire and Surrey for a number of years, we made a 'new life in the country' in 2005, taking on a large renovation project, converting an uninhabitable ex nursing-home into our family home. It's definitely been a labour of love, and still keeps us busy, but these days it's with more pleasurable jobs, such as gardening and decorating! We have loved having a better work life balance here in Shropshire whilst the children were growing up, and now that they're "independent " Paul and I have more time to enjoy the things we love, such as long walks, playing golf, meals out. As a family, we have loved travelling and Paul and I have also been fortunate, through work and holidays, to have visited varied and interesting places. Family holidays have taken us to Turkey, and in 2014 we came across the gem that is Kalkan, and it was love at first sight!
