  • it was wonderful- everythings Perfect!

  • Fantastic. Very spacious and comfortable apartment in an awesome location so close to Campo Santa Margherita and Campo San Barnaba. Pasticceria downstairs, deli next door, great restaurants nearby.

We had no problems with the apartment at all.

Alessandro was a fantastic host, meeting us at the train station, recommending restaurants, booking us a taxi boat to the airport. But most of all he took the time to share his thoughts about how to best experience and enjoy Venice: no map, enjoy getting lost. I strongly recommend taking his advice, and this is a great base from which to explore Venice - close enough to everything but far enough away from the crazy crowds.

We would stay here again without hesitation.

  • This apartment was perfect for our family of four. It was really lovely to have a "home" in Venice. We particularly enjoyed hanging out our washing like the locals and being able to cook at home following a visit to the supermarket nearby.

Alessandro met us near the train station and guided us to the apartment on foot. He then spent some time advising us on how to enjoy and experience Venice. We followed all of his advice and had a wonderful time!

We loved buying our breakfast from the bakery downstairs each morning. We ate at one of the cafes recommended by Alessandro in Campo San Barnaba and it was very good. On our final night we went to a nearby cafe (Impromptu) which was also excellent. There's a little shop near the bakery where we bought our wine and other provisions. A delightful man runs the place.

We all enjoyed having wireless connection after sporadic connection elsewhere. The beds were comfortable and lots of towels were supplied. We enjoyed being so close to the San Toma vaporetto stop.

Thank you Alessandro for your kindness and generosity.

  • We had a great time in Venice, and Alessandro is a great host, responsive and helpful. He met us to take us to the apt, he's full of information about the area, and charming. There were good and bad sides to the apartment, but most of all, it didn't stop us from having a good time.

You couldnt ask for a better location, you have so much on the doorstep and it's located in a much less touristy area than other places. It's cheap compared to lots of other apartments. It's large. We were a party of five and it accommodated us very well (the kitchen is on the small side, but totally fine and you'll be eating out all the time).
Tonolo, directly below, is a fantastic patisserie, where you can stand and have coffee and a breakfast pastry with venetians before they start their day- was so buzzy at 9am.

The downsides - be warned showers were a dribble (although Alessandro did say that Venice has a problem with water pressure - so this could be a problem all over). This means that only one shower should be operational at one time - which Alessandro advised. One other thing to be aware of, although the apartment is in a great location and it's also opposite a very lively bar. Which was only a minor problem on Friday night and it died down around 1am - all the other evenings the windows kept out the noise.

I'm pretty certain that the apartment is run professionally as a let, which is fine, but it isn't someones day-to-day home, if you're looking for that experience. The main issue was that it wasn't as clean as it should be and needs a real deep clean, there were dead wood lice, a very sticky patch on the floor, dust in all the corners and bath mats weren't fully cleaned.

If you want somewhere cheap, in a great location, and don't mind too much about a really clean place then this apt is fine. And if you do go for it, you'll have lots on your doorstep:

Tonolo for breakfast (even though you can't sit), La Bitta definitely the best choice of restaurant close by, red caffe on Santa Margarita for cheap spritz and fine gelato at Grom on San Barnaba.

  • Alessandro, our host, was fantastic and very helpful in introducing us how to live in Venice. The apartment is spacious and nice to live in, very well situated. We loved it to be there!

Nevertheless there were some problems. Sorry to say but - in consideration to the price - we have to mention: the bathrooms/showers could need a refresh; we as well had a problem with warm water - it was only lukewarm. And a power blackout happend 3 times, the grid was overloaded because of the ACs running. The wifi-connection needed to be restarted every 1-2 hours.
Alessandro took care about all the problems. But the washing-machine didn't work correctly the whole period (5 days).
Without these downsides it would have been a perfect stay.

  • How central is this place! A real haven (as we went in July 2013 when it's really hot and there are simply millions of tourists). We were met by the host after he gave us good directions to go to a nearby bridge after we got off the train station at Santa Lucia. It's really tricky to find the place otherwise. He led us to the apartment. Warning!! Do not come with heavy luggage (with or without wheels) as there are so many bridges and steps (so the wheels aren't much good). The crowds make it too difficult. This apartment is up two flights of stairs. I'm glad I only came with a hand-lugage size case I could carry and not drag.
There is no balcony or courtyard but the views of roof tops out of the top bedroom are lovely. The airconditioning was a godsend and worked in all rooms. The bathrooms and kitchen were OK but not pristine, and you couldn't chop food in the kitchen as there was only room for one person at a time. The water was only ever luke-warm and sometimes hot, which was OK for summer but not for winter. This would suit three people happily (as it did for us) but lack of space in the kitchen might make it crowded for more. We spent a happy time watching people wander around below us and we were surrounded by beautiful churches. The vaporetto (San Toma) was only a 10 minute walk away and St Lucia railway station only 15mins away. You can only walk or go by boat in Venice...I don't know why it's taken me this long to work it out. It's so quiet at night - bliss.
Another advantage here was the bakery on one side (so we bought our daily croissant there for breakfast) and on the other, a lovely small deli where we could buy milk, cheese, meats, pasta, eggs, and other delicious specialties. There's an amazing supermarket next to the railway station if you need more choice.
The host made us most welcome (but you need to buy your milk and tea before the shops shut) and showed us around.
Buy your 7-day vaporetto passes at Platform 1 at the railway station from the trave agent. Best to get to San Marco around 7am before all the crowds get there. Public transport in Venice is awesome. Try the number 2 line from start to finish....wish I'd known that on day one.
btw the wi fi is almost impossible to use - we gave up in the end.

  • Alessandro, really gave us a warm welcome as we arrived to Ca'Barba, With a good explanation of how things work we felt immediately welcome at his place.
A perfect location, in a neighborhood with lots of students and away from the rumble of Venice.
The apt is pretty spacious and has separate bed-rooms and bathrooms so enough privacy for everyone.

I would definitely recommend this apartment.

  • Allessandro was MAGNIFICANT! He was a perfect host, meeting us at the boat stop, walking us to the apartment, and giving us loads of valuable local information about Venezia! We could not have asked for more.

The apartment is in the ideal location in Venezia. This was our 3rd trip and so we wanted to be in Dorsoduro for sure. This location is absolutely divine. Near Tonolo bakery, the Frari church, and Campo San Barnaba.

The apartment has a washing machine and clothesline, and air conditioning, plenty of space, a well appointed kitchen, and the sounds of pigeons and happy people outside.

I was so grateful that we chose this option - there were 6 of us and we had a wonderful time in Venezia at Ca'Barba. Grazie mile!

  • Alessandro is a pleasure to deal with, nothing is too much trouble, great practical advice on getting around, eating out, leaving bags, meeting at bus station etc - couldn't have asked for more.

Apartment location is excellent, an easy 6/7 mins walk from the bus station, good spot to tour Venice from whether by foot or boat, plenty of places to eat around the local area. 2 adults and 3 children, apartment was easy to access up a few flights of stairs, easily large enough and comfortable, small kitchenette area off with large fridge, microwave etc. Excellent patisserie and deli downstairs for fresh breakfast supplies and supermarket 6/7 mins walk away. Views across rooftops. Some noise in evening from bar in one of the streets below but not a problem.

    We'd book it again.
