My cool 2 bedroom apartment is a perfect base to tour NYC!! There is plenty of room and the location couldn't be better. Subway is right around the corner, SoHo, is just a couple aves away and everything else the East village has to offer (and nyc).
******Great discounts for January, February and March, inquire for details***
***There are discounts for week and month long stays****
The 2 bedroom apartment faces the both Houston and e.1st streets, with views!. The apartment is on the 5th floor of a walk up building, just one more flight up and there is an open rooftop (enter at your own risk). The apartment is a very cozy pre-war apartment, with exposed brick, plenty of space and a very comfy feel to it (think an actual home). The apartment has two bedrooms with two large beds and an extra pull out bed (couch) that converts to a queen size bed.
**Update 8/23/2012, a few of my guests have just complained about the apartments cleanliness so I have just hired a new cleaning crew**
***update 1/11/2014: new sheets, and extra towels, new paint
**Update: upgraded sheets, and added extra towels
The neighborhood is fantastic, I dare say the best neighborhood, but that's not just me, NY TimeOut said so too. Close to everything, subway (F,B,D,M,6,Q,R,S,J,M,Z) the F train is literally half a street away. Whole foods, union square, Tompkins Sq Park, east river park, just to name a few local attractions and the incredible restaurants, bars, retail that the east village offers.
The apartment will be provided as a "turn-key". This means that all you need to do is show up with your personal belongings. Each room will have a queen or a full size bed (high end mattresses, very comfortable), with desks, tv’s and all necessary linens. The kitchen is fully stocked with dishes, utensils etc. we can even make sure that food is in the fridge waiting when you arrive (additional cost). The bathroom as well is fully stocked with towels, mats etc. Really the space will be made to be comfortable and as a home away from home.
car service can be provided for an additional charge, a driver will meet you at the airport and will take you right to the apartment.
You have access to everything in my apartment. utilities, wifi, cable tv. Since you'll be the only ones there (I won't be there and it is not a share unit) so enjoy the whole apartment. Kitchen is available too with cookware/utensils.
I really only meet you on your arrival and will be gone during your stay. I'm local in case anything comes up.
I love that my neighborhood is "the real NYC". you have everything you need all within a 1-3 blocks whether it is landmarks, food, retail, parks, the subway, historic landmarks and even the east river boardwalk is just a few avenues away. You should experience all the great food choices/restaurants, boutique retail shops and just the vibrancy of the east village.
Very convenient public transportation. F train is one block away and the 6 n r q j are all just a few blocks away.
- Great Location (walking distance to SOHO, Little Italy, Chinatown, Financial District etc.)
- Good communication with the host, and good check-in process.
- Not to expensive compared to other listings for the same period
- A LOT of Clean sheets and towels.
- The host resolved quickly a slow-toilet situation.
- The host allowed us some flexibility in the check-in/check-out hrs.
- The apartment building doesn't look too friendly to me, but still i guess that is how most apartment buildings in NYC look like.
- No elevator on the building, so we did a lot of stair climbing.
- The apartment wasn't ready when we arrived, and the cleaning lady spent 1-2 hrs to get everything done while we were there, so we had to wait.
- The main bedroom in the apartment was clean and nice, the other room and kitchen/living room didn't look as nice as on the pictures. The kitchen itself is pretty old and a little bit dirty so we haven't used it, including the living room couch which had noticeable stains on it so we had to cover it with sheets to use it!
- Noticeable slope on the floor.
- I personally killed 4 cockroaches during my stay in the apartment. They seem to come out from the holes in the old kitchen.
- One of 3 chairs in the kitchen was pretty much broken and it wasn't usable because it would break easily once somebody sit on it.
- We had a slow-toilet situation right from the beginning. I guess the previous guests messed this up and it wasn't fixed when we arrived.
Overall we were pretty OK with the apartment, but i wouldn't recommend it to a friend. We are not demanding guests, but somebody else would probably freak out because of the stuff listed above.
I am sure Edward will fix most of the stuff listed above and it will be a much nicer experience!
I had a difficult time receiving a response from our host to confirm plans until nearly the day of our trip. The street this apartment is located
on is not the most welcoming. The building across the street had plywood over it with lots of graffiti. When we arrived the main door to building was unlocked and seemed to stay that way our entire stay. The door handle to the apartment was hard open itself and eventually did fall off at one point. The floors in this apartment are slanted to a sever degree, in fact one bed has two sides propped up on blocks of wood to level the bed. There are stains on the walls, ceiling, and furniture. It is very basic and just a place to sleep. The windows were very drafty and we ended up placing couch cushions over them. It was just fine for our quick two night stay and the cleaning woman was very sweet, but the place itself was not welcoming, cozy, nor a place I would book again.
Regarding my apartment and things I can control and if interested read further down for my response to her review...
-on 2/17/2014 I will be repainting the apartment, steam cleaning the couch, and insuring there is no problem with door knob. The walls are scuffed not stained and the couch has coffee stains etc that I was not aware of. Heavy curtains will be installed to address any potential draft.
-there is a slant on some of the floors however it is not severe and not that noticeable.
-I try to help everyone. Please let me know if things come up when you're staying at one of my apartments. Communication is important. Thank you!
I'll try to address every issue listed:
-my communication is spot on and I did communicate with her the day prior to her arriving. Not the same day. It is in my interest to communicate with every guest prior to arrival for many reasons of which are not necessary to list...
-The street my apartment is on, e.1st between 1st and 2nd aves. This is literally one of the safest, best locations and some of the most expensive real estate in Manhattan. Subway is a block away, Whole Foods is a block away, a new/modern children's park is at one corner of the block and a newly constructed buildings at the opposite end of the block. Don't take my word look up nyc police reports that are public record.
-The main door is kept locked. I'm not sure how to respond to this one other than simply state the door is unlocked unless if there is a delivery in which case it may be propped open.
-guests do beat up the door handle when they stay at my apt. If it is anything but working order I'll have someone immediately stop by to repair. no questions asked. any time.
-I've uploaded a picture of the building across the street. Please note that this is actually a historically relevant building and a very very expensive building to live in (across the street). The second story is actually a gigantic 5 bedroom apartment with rent that starts at $20k. Yes. $20,000 a month. The grafiti is simply everywhere in NYC. The plywood is standard construction requirement by NYC law, as the space behind it is being turned into a high end cafe. My same street has several very nice restaurants including Prune. Historical fact the building was built in 1885 and prior to becoming a residential building it was a factory for fabric during the NYC era when everything was manufactured in the city.
- each bedroom has a natural gas furnace/heater for heat (not a space heater). I'm happy to provide additional space heaters for those that prefer a tropical environment:) really just ask and I'll drop off.
- I disagree that my apartment is not cozy nor welcoming. It's not brand new construction however it is definitely good for a short or long term stay. I always welcome constructive criticism and requests.
-the following is a message she sent via airbnb the day before she was due to check out "Thanks, everything has been great. Yes, can we extend the check out to 1pm, that'd be perfect! Thanks and we'll decide about out bags.
Thanks for everything." :/ yeah. left me feeling bad that it wasn't really the case.
Frozen NYC but the apparment is just so well located ! We spent a great time in NYC !
The location is very convenient, close to subways and restaurants. The place wasn't as nice as we expected but all the amenities were there...hot water, comfortable bed and room temperature, kitchen supplies and televison. It is located in a busy area and you can hear street noise well into the night, not terrible, but noticable. For 2 couples, it's a good deal.
The apartment is in a good location, clean, roomy and the bath is modern and works. If that's all you need, fine. But it is not a "beautiful apartment." Bare light bulbs, broken wall switch and lamp switch, broken blinds hanging crookedly in the windows, torn upholstery, junk furniture, picture hooks in the wall, but no pictures anywhere. We were comfortable, but disappointed.
GREAT location - but was on the 5th floor in derelict building. Ok communication w host - clean apartment (smelt like bleach upone arrival) but lacked any atmosphere, leaky gas smell, had nice clean sheets & lots of towels but VERY BARE walls. Couch was a bit gross and there was only 1 toilet roll so we had to buy extra. Definitely NOT homely! I probably wouldn't stay here again until it was a bit nicer fit out.
NOTE: be warned about the CRAZY Palm reader below the apartment who is a MASSIVE CON ARTIST! Stole $500 from my friend! Great coffee at BlueBird on 1st St & Ave A.
We found the apartment very conveniently located, with quick access to the subway and buses. The beds were very comfortable and the shower had great water pressure and plenty of hot water, and lots of good quality towels.
While the space is limited, it didn't bother us as were out most of the day. It did get noisy on weekend nights, with sirens and loud arguments on the 1st St side. But the sound of someone playing a saxophone somewhere more than made up for it.
The location of the flat is very very nice. We visited most of Manhattan by walking from the flat. Edward was always answering my emails and was there to welcome us. However we found roaches and other insects in the kitchen. Also we found some hairs in the bed, wondering if the bed linen were washed before arriving...
Nous avons passer 3 nuits dans l'appartement de E.H. Nous étions 4 personnes. L'appartement était propre malgré le check out et in serré !
