Our house is in the center of Siwa. My brother has a small shop next to the Siwa bus station and our house is in the same street, maybe 2 minutes away by foot. Shali, the old town made of clay and salt brick that Siwa is known for is just 10 minutes on foot. The market and the Siwa museum are even closer. The Mountain of the Dead is just next to my plantation, so about 5-10 minutes by toktok. Because we have a few very impressive archaeological and natural sites in Siwa, people think they must be far. In fact, they are all very close and you can easily explore a few each day either on a bike or in a toktok, or with a small tour. The tourist information is 5 minutes away.

Hello, my name is Yahya and I am from the beautiful oasis called Siwa. I live here with my mother, my sister, two brothers, my dear wife, and my two lovely children. I have a plantation of delicious dates but I am also interested in hospitality and meeting people from other cultures. We are a modern Siwan family. We live in a big house which is divided into a male and a female part. It’s because in our culture, men and women who are not related do not meet easily. But we, the Siwan people are very open, understanding, and accepting of other cultures. As our guests, men or women or both, you will be staying in the appartment on the male side of the house (unless you are a woman and prefer to stay in the female part). We also have a Western and an Egyptian toilet to accommodate the preferences of different guests. Women also often ask if they have to wear special clothes, because Siwan married women are fully covered in public. The answer is no, you can wear what you want. We recommend mosquito repellent though :)

I love to socialize with our guests and you will see that this is something that Siwan people like to do in general. I have a toktok (a motorcycle with a passenger / cargo space behind) so I can take you wherever you want to go in Siwa. All the famous places are very close to my house. The old town is just 10 min away, the Oracle and Cleopatra’s spring maybe 15 minutes with the toktok, Fatmy Island, Mountain of the Dead, and different hot springs are just as close. My work at my farm is very flexible so I am happy to show these places to you if you would like that or help you get there and let you explore them in your own company. I spend most of my time at my farm which is just 15 min away and we have phone signal everywhere is Siwa, so you can always call me if you need anything. I will also see you every day at home to check if everything is going well and to serve you your breakfast. Siwans make delicious meat (goat, beef, chicken) but the breakfast is usually a wide choice of vegetarian options, or with eggs, you choose. It’s all homemade, including the bread.
