I live within a 1/2 mile from two (2) police stations...one is a police training station.
At ANY given time, you will see several police patrols going up and down the street, to and from the station. There is only so much precaution a traveller can take, but its always nice to know that protection is just AT the corner. So be safe! For those who need additional security, feel free to take advantage of my night time free shuttle from the nearest train stop!
I will admit, there are better areas in Chicago but none will be as memorable as your stay here! If you are looking for a posh, well-to-do area, DO NOT BOOK HERE! hehehe This is an urban inner city community that has undergone nice redevelopment due to the brand new college recently built (but has some work to be done). I live near a beautiful massive park with a full running track, community center /swimming and children's playground.

I stayed for 8 or so days at Annie's. I met a lot of cool personalities in the house & enjoyed my stay there. I was in town for work & she was kind enough to even drop me off at my coworkers hotel to go out with them. I would definitely stay again.
Well the neighborhood is comparable to the Bronx, but there really isn't anything to worry about during the day! Annie is an amazing host, SO helpful, and welcoming. The house is very accommodating, and so affordable! Definitely, recommend it if you are open to a new experience!
Everything great. No complaints. Must experience it yourself!!!
A very welcoming place to spend a few nights in Chicago -- only a 15 minute drive to downtown on the weekends and only about 25 with weekday traffic--- its a great place to base your explorations. The place is definitely a gathering of positive energy. The host is very accommodating, filled with energy and information about the area and nearby sites. Be prepared to meet a lot of new people who are all ready to have a good time; if you are looking to escape a busy hub of travelers, this is not the place. It is however perfect for those looking to meet new people and get a foothold on a short or long term stay in Chicago.
Annie was a sweetheart. We arrived in the early evening from O'Hare and took the Green Line. She was prompt with picking us up from the station. We were only in Chicago for 2 nights, but the house was clean, the kitchen was warm, and the bathroom was spotless. She hooked us up with free passes and "fun day" CTA passes. The other guests in her house were young, friendly, and helpful. We had booked a full size bunk bed, but she actually placed us in the private bedroom with the LARGE bed (that bed is REALLY huge and very comfortable). I'm originally from the Northeast, so the neighborhood didn't bother me at all---never saw anything amiss, never heard any gunshots, etc. We actually walked both mornings to the nearest CTA station and when we asked "locals" in the neighborhood for directions, they were always kind, courteous, and civil. If you're looking for a hostel-type stay, this is the place. The only thing to be aware of: the house is a ways from "downtown"---but there is a CTA station and several buses that will get you to the "city" in about 30-40 minutes.
Annie was an awesome host and very helpful and knowledgeable on how to get around the city.
Her place is so close and convenient to downtown Chicago. She takes pride in keeping her place neat tidy and cosy. And there is also a new washer for convenenience sake.
Plus you get to meet other interesting guests in the house which was part of the whole fantastic experience in her place
I will always remember the great memories of staying in her place.
We are a family with 3 kids from Estonia and stayed at Annies place for four nights in private bunk bed room. The beds were comfortable and big enough to sleep all 5 of us. We were a little worried about the neighbourhood, but I can assure I did not even once feel unsecure. In the evenings Annie picked us up from train station, but in the mornings we walked there ourselves. Annie is a very nice host and we defenetly recommend her place to stay.

Om værten, Nonya
I Love Travelers, traveling and everything in between. Born and raised in Chicago, I became an avid traveller and barter enthusiast. I've been travelling for 20 years and could easily write my own book on travelling on a budget. I PRIDE myself on the deals I would obtain. A week in Ireland, rental of two 3 bedroom entire homes for $45! FOUR Chicago Bull playoff games during the Michael Jordan Era included 4th row floor seats, box seats...$100 total! Travelled europe thru 15 countries for $500 including accommodations and food...for a 3 month period! And this was BEFORE Airbnb. I can go on. I'm geeked when I find a deal and become just plain silly with happiness at an unbelievable deal. Even upon confirmation, my website for my guests are filled with free and things to do for CRAZY CHEAP. 'Spend like a spencer, but live like a king!'
Aside from that, my mother was a big enthusiast in education. As the oldest of nine (9), I can tell you that we were not short on activities. Piano lessons on Saturday AND an hour a day, per child of piano practice since 4!; tennis on Sunday, knitting lessons on Tuesday and Thursday, sewing lessons on Wednesday and swim classes on Friday. And tha'ts not including the architectural/drafting studies and woodshop classes that consumed my teenage years in addition. If you are good, I can definately knit you a sweater with a nice cable stitch!
My piano teacher was Professor Zilner Randolph for over 15 years. If you don't know who he is, perhaps you heard of a musician called Louis Armstrong or Duke Ellington? He was Louis Armstrong's musical director, played trumpet on a number of Armstrong's recordings and composed the tune "Old Man Moses'. He also played with Carroll Dickerson and Dave Peyton in the middle of the decade, and led his own Chicago band later in the 1930s. He was an arranger for Duke Ellington, Earl Hines, and others.
Six of my siblings and I were his students for over 15 years.. In fact, one of my brothers, if you wish to look him up for a concert near you, is a worldwide professional jazz pianist and a graduate of Berkley College, with several releases. As for me, I became sidetracked with travel. If you are ever in South Korea, Ecuador, or Florida, you will probably run into five of my sisters/brothers and their familiies. Say hello for me!
My home was built in 1875. So you will find some old and new features within. I'm always in construction to some degree within. Thanks to airbnb, I have been able to complete at least 75% of the renovations. Still have much to do.
I feel everyone should open their minds to new things, cultural experiences and diversity. Only then can you understand people thru their eyes and not some narrow minded media coverage. By letting their experience be your experience will help you better understand people in a true and raw sense. That's why I simply love Airbnb. It places you in parts of the world where you probably wouldn't have gone but always wanted to go to get that 'local' feel with a local and trusted host.
Since I don't travel as much as I used to....Let your experience be my experience!
I look forward to meeting you.
