For the adventure traveler, try a night or two in a sheep wagon. Home on wheels to early sheep herders in the mountains of Montana, this hand built wagon sits on our 30 acre homestead. Finished under canvas with tongue and groove pine, this very small space offers a unique lodging experience. Inside is a nice queen size bed, 2 bench seats, and a pull out dining table. Enjoy mountain views from the outside bench, rocker & fire pit. Bathroom facilities in our nearby shop.

Enjoy the view of the mountains from the small outside deck. A fire pit and seating are provided for enjoying the evening. The sheepherder stove is disconnected right now, but there's a small electric heater and a small fan provided. The sheep wagon has power outlets and we'll provide that first cup of morning coffee/tea. (Plus there's a great local coffee roaster in Sheridan.) You'll find storage under the bed for your gear. The sheep wagon is in front of our shop, where there's access to the bathroom (sink, toilet, shower). The chuck wagon box on the back of the wagon opens to provide a place to set up your cooking (we can provide a portable stove if needed). Plus there's numerous great restaurants and a brewery a short drive away.

Located in the Ruby Valley of Montana, we're surrounded by mountain ranges and blue ribbon trout streams. Enjoy exploring the Tobacco Root, Gravelly, Highland or Ruby Mountains; cast a line in the Ruby, Madison, Beaverhead, Big Hole or Jefferson Rivers. Explore Montana history in Nevada and Virginia City. Spend a day exploring ghost towns, caverns and hot springs. The full service community of Sheridan Montana is 6.5 miles away. Home of Ruby Valley Brew, if you want to fill up a growler before you arrive! Alder MT is 4 miles north. Lewis and Clark Caverns State Park, known as the most decorated limestone cavern in the Northwest, and Historic Uptown Butte Montana are both within an hour. It's a short drive to some of the best mineral hot springs. Norris Hot Springs and Renova are both nearby and Yellowstone, Fairmont, Boulder and Bozeman are within a reasonable drive. A trip to Yellowstone National Park is just 100 miles away; avoid the crowds and expense by coming back here after a day exploring all the beauty and adventure the Park has to offer.

It might be obvious that we like this area. A caveat - it is a rural ranching community, so it can be considered pretty quiet around here. Our closest signal is 45 miles away and livestock outnumber residents 10 to 1.

There is no kitchen in the sheep wagon, but you will have access to a microwave, propane BBQ grill, and refrigerator/freezer if needed.

Finally, if you and yours are more than 2, we can make our 1898 sheep wagon available for an additional $20. There are absolutely no amenities to this old wagon, other than a bed, a deck, a firepit, and a lot of history. It sits on the other side of the shop, and you'd share the bathroom facilities.

Sheridan, Montana, USA

Our wagon is located 6.5 miles south of Sheridan and 4 miles north of Alder, Montana in the Ruby Valley. Sheridan is a full service community with grocery store, hardware store, brewery, coffee roaster, bakery/deli, restaurants, banks, gas stations, library, and hospital. Alder has a restaurant and grocery/gas station. Ruby Valley is ringed by 7 mountain ranges in a rural agriculture setting. Public lands of the Beaverhead-Deerlodge National Forest, Bureau of Land Management and Montana wildlife management areas and fishing access points are nearby and beckon for exploration. The historical sites of Nevada City and Virginia City are just 10 minutes away. For a longer exploration, Yellowstone National Park is 2-3 hours drive.
