Boligen
Our house is located within a country estate whose history dates back to Roman times. Today it is the ideal place for those looking to be surrounded by nature in search of inspiration or those who enjoy a charming country home. It's our weekend home--where we spend most weekends away from our busy lives in Lisbon.

The property is located just outside of Tomar, close to the Convent of Christ. In Tomar and around the city you can taste terrific food, find great people and beautiful landscapes.

The house is located in lands which belonged to the family of Marquis de Tomar and the rooms are charming and comfortable. The living room with fireplace overlooks the green landscape and there is a terrace where you can enjoy the birds singing and the fresh air of the countryside. If it's too hot, you are welcome to venture out with the frogs in the waters of the old tank. Not too adventurous? Cool off in the pool overlooking the vineyards.

We invite you to stroll in the company of swallows (and an occasional falcon) and breathe in the fresh air around the estate. There are great trails just outside the house which will take you just as far as you'd like.

Some say the estate is a place of enlightenment where relaxation suddenly happens. We hope you may find it here!

Gæsteadgang
The house, pool and grounds of the property are up for exploring.

Andre ting, der er værd at bemærke
We hope you enjoy our house and think of it as your own—and take good care of it—for the duration of your stay.

The house was built using local workmen and local materials, nothing fancy or expensive, just solid and functional. Rustic flowers and weeds that grow about, free of pesticides. There are great sunsets and chirping birds, wild rabbits and birds. Around the house there is jasmine and lavender, rosemary, ancient olive trees, beautiful oak and cypress trees.

Beliggenhed

Cem Soldos, Santarém (distrikt), Portugal

There are lots of things to see in the area. Here are some suggestions:

-The Convent of Christ is a must see—you cannot come to Tomar without seeing it. is a religious building and Roman Catholic building in Tomar, Portugal, originally a Templar stronghold built in the 12th century. After the Order of the Knights Templar was dissolved in the 14th century, the Portuguese branch of the order was turned into the Knights of the Order of Christ, which supported Portugal's maritime discoveries of the 15th century. The Convent of Christ of Tomar is one of Portugal's most important historical and artistic monuments and has been in the World Heritage list of UNESCO since 1983.
-Go to Castelo do Bode for an afternoon of swimming.
-Tour Tomar. The old part of town with the many coffeeshops and flower-lined streets are a great way to spend your time on vacation. The end of the day in the Main Square is gorgeous.
-Have lunch at Carrão, the simplest restaurant in the world where they serve only two things: pork chops and bacalhau. The people at The Main House can reserve it for you and show you directions.
-Visit Fátima. The history of Fátima is associated with three children: Lúcia and her cousins, Francisco and Jacinta Marto, who on 13 May 1917, while guarding their sheep in the Cova da Iria, witnessed an apparition of a lady dressed in white. Cova da Iria is now the Chapel of Apparitions or Portuguese: Capela das Aparições.[3][4] The lady, later referred to as Our Lady of the Rosary, indicated that she was sent by God with a message of prayer, repentance and consecrations. She visited the children each month on the 13th day from May 13 - October 13. The last apparition occurred on October 13, and was witnessed by 70,000 pilgrims, who saw the Miracle of the Sun.[3][4] In addition, Our Lady of Fátima sent a message that consisted of three secrets: first, a vision of Hell where the souls of the sinful would travel without prayer; the second, prophesied the beginning of the Second World War; and ultimately, the mysterious third secret, which was written down by Lúcia dos Santos in 1944, and held by the Vatican, since 1957.
-Visit Ourém. The legend of the name of the village and Oureana recounts that in a surprise attack on the St John's Day in 1158, a Christian knight, Gonçalo Hermigues and his companions kidnapped a Moorish princess with the famous Arab name of Fatima. The knight took Fatima to a small village of the recently created Kingdom of Portugal, in the Serra de Aire hills. The princess fell in love with the Christian knight and decided to become herself a Christian, taking the name of Oureana. They got married and the princess received as prize the town which she called Ourém, after her name.
-Go for a walk from your house to the beautiful Aqueduct of Pegões. You'll be in awe. Take some sandwiches and set up your pic-nic under the arches.
-Go to Nazaré. Some of the biggest waves in the world can be found there and it's just 45 min drive.
-Go to S. Pedro de Moel for some wonderful fish and for wonderful Atlantic beaches. 1 hr drive.
-Go shopping for decorative pottery in Caldas da Rainha. The town has two primary claims to fame: its curative sulfurous waters and its whimsical decorative pottery. Caldas da Rainha was founded by Queen Leonor, wife of King João II. One day in 1484, while traveling from Óbidos to Batalha, she found a group of peasants bathing in foul-smelling waters by the roadside. She stopped to inquire about this oddity and was told that the waters possessed curative powers. She decided to try them for herself. She was pleased to find that she was quickly relieved of some affliction she had been suffering (exactly what is not known). On that site, the queen ordered a thermal hospital built so that others may enjoy the relief that she felt. The spa hospital still stands to serve those with certain medical conditions. Caldas da Rainha is an artistic city. You can find works of art throughout the city, and not just in its several museums. Sculptures serve as centerpieces to most of the city's traffic circles. Caldas's main park contains many statues and sculptures. The city is home to a college of art and design, as well as a vocational school devoted to ceramics. Caldas's historical center hosts many lovely buildings, with many examples of Art Nouveau style.
-Don't miss Óbidos—just go there. You'll know why once you've arrived ;-)
