Unfortunately, I'm sorry to say my experience with Caitlin and Julian was not the best.
They seemed like nice guests and everything was fine until around 3 am on their first night. I always accommodate our guests to the best of my ability, but Caitlin claimed the home was "unbreathable" due to cigarette odor. I would like to state for clarification, I never smoke in the house, only outside.
Caitlin arrived early in the day and not once mentioned the house smelled of cigarettes. Around 3 am, Caitlin and Julian decided to wait outside in their car until I arrived from a family gathering. They requested I give them a refund at this time, but there was really nothing I could do since transactions are handled by Airbnb. The only way to resolve this matter was to contact Airbnb directly.
Caitlin claims to have asthma and it might be a severe case, but if that's true then this matter should have been brought to our attention in advance. This is our first negative experience and complaint about “cigarette odor”.
Caitlin requested a full refund and I gave her a refund for 1 night to accommodate her for the inconvenience, but unfortunately, Caitlin was not satisfied.
I would like to recommend the couple to other hosts. After this encounter, I highly recommend hosts to consider carefully. Not only was the situation very difficult, but Caitlin was completely dishonest in her review. First, she claimed there were multiple smokers in the home, then claimed I didn't respond to her and that I did not refund her. My partner doesn't smoke, I did communicate with her within two days of the cancellation and gave her a refund.
I’m disappointed Airbnb allowed a guest to leave a dishonest review on our profile.
