Home Roast & Artisanal Toast-Single

Lejlighed - Privat værelse · Augustus Ave, Boston, MA 02131, USA

Fresh home roasted coffee from around the world awaits you each morning along with a thick slice of my freshly baked artisan bread.

Awake each morning to the smell of fresh brewed coffee - roasted here by me from exotic green beans. Pair this with some fresh baked artisan bread that I typically have on hand. If you love coffee and fresh home made bread, it doesn't get any better then this. If you are interested, I might give you a lesson or two on how to roast your own coffee. In addition to fresh baked bread toasted with jam additional breakfast offerings may include cereal, bagels with cream cheese, or, on occassion, a Colombian breakfast of arepa, egg, and cheese. It's delicioso and high protein breakfast, a great way to start the day.

This is a charming, bright, and sunny apartment with views of the Boston skyline. Roslindale Village is a quiet section of Boston (email hidden)ly and charming village square that has many fine restaurants, coffee shops, market, specialty shops, and farmer's market on Saturdays from June through October.

This room is perfect for anyone considering a long term stay. It's not unusual for guests to stay for one month or more. Though the room is small the adjacent living room, for the most part, is yours to relax, watch tv, or browse the internet on your computer. This room was created by knocking down one of the walls in order to open up the front of the house. It is an "alcove" off the living room separated from the rest of the house by blackout curtains. There is plenty of storage for whatever you bring. Public transportation into and out of Boston is very convenient. It's what I use and it's faster than driving and parking. If your stay is for one month or more I will arrange to meet you at the airport or train station and return you there when you depart.

The room has a twin size bed that will accomodate one person. There is a living room, dining room, kitchen, back porch, front porch, and bathroom that is shared with the host. There is a full office with a printer, scanner, Macintosh computer, PC, and Linux computers. There is free off-street parking in driveway for one car. There is unrestricted on street parking. We are close to Rt. 128 for those who would use that route to arrive by car. If you enjoy biking around a city feel free to bring bicycles as they can be stored in the basement. Though there is no laundry on the premises your laundry can be done for about $5 per load for wash, dry, and fold.

I have just recently joined the movement away from cable tv and I get 27 channels in HD through an antenna. I do have internet with Netflix streaming via a Roku box that provides many alternative sources of tv entertainment. If you are spending the evening here I invite you to share a movie with me. Wifi is provided throughout the house.

If you are an early morning person and want to go to the gym to start your day you can do so as my guest. Please let me know in advance of your arrival.

If you are arriving from outside the US and you need to arrange for a sim card for you mobile phone I can arrange that. If you need electric power adapters we can get those as well.

Once you book your room I will send you links to useful local information. If you would like to discuss special transportation needs then please feel free to ask. If you are coming from outside the US and want to get a sim card for your phone I can help you with that once you arrive.

This is absolutely a comfortable, professional, and safe place for both men and women.

Coffee Fresh Roasted for Spring 2014

NOTE: coffee is roasted and kept fresh. At any time there usually only two coffees available. One light roast and one dark roast. These are alternated daily and often blended to create interesting flavors.

We are just finishing up the coffees roasted for the winter. I don't roast in winter, too cold out. I will post the current selection once the weather warms and I start roasting again.

You can feel free to use almost anything here. Feel free to cook in the kitchen and store food in the refrigerator. The local farmer's market runs June through November where you can buy the freshest of local produce and many other products. If you have a lot of luggage and are here long enough I can store things out of the way in the attic.

This is a shared living experience. I live and work here. I spend most of my time in my office thus it affords the guest a sense of privacy to watch TV or some other sort of entertainment. For the most part you will have the entire front of the house to yourself. If you are here for a longer stay we might even share takeout, dinner, or go to a movie. And if you are here on Thanksgiving you will be invited to my family dinner.

This is a very quiet neighborhood. Guests often remark at how quiet this neighborhood is for being in the 3rd most densely populated city in the US. You are within walking distance to the village square where you will find restaurants, markets, and a variety of shops.

Public transportation in Boston is as good as anywhere in the world. Every bus and train has a gps that lets you track it via your mobile phone or computer. There is no guesswork or wasted time in using the public transit system.

To get into Boston the bus is just a few steps from the front door and you can be in downtown Boston in 40 minutes on average, often less. My location is an excellent place from which to commute into downtown Boston, Mass General Hospital, the financial district, Back Bay (Copley, Prudential Center, Newbury St.), the Museuem of Fine Arts, Harvard Medical School, and the Longwood Medical Center.

If you are going to use public transportation I have a "Charlie Card" with enough of a balance to get you through the first day or so of your visit. You can reload them at any "T" station. The Charlie Card is very convenient for bus and subway travel and is less expensive per fare than using cash or the Charlie Ticket. I do expect that you will return these cards with the same balance as when you received them. The best deal on public transportation is the one week unlimited subway/bus pass for $17. The breakeven on that is about 5 rides.

  • Duane is a very nice guy. He was more than happy to take me to the "good" market on his runs and I was delighted to watch him roast his coffee beans. The large vessel of coffee left for me to tank up during my day was greatly appreciated.

I stayed long term - 90+ days while I did my thesis semester at Emerson College. I got my work done and was able to enjoy a bit of Roslindale Village as well. I managed the bus/T into Boston - with a bit of planning when I stayed into the evening. I never resorted to taking a cab from the T station but did come close once or twice.

All said - a couple of things that worked out okay for me but that a guest should be aware of: What is in the photo is basically all there is to the room. I would characterize the area as a sleeping alcove since it is partitioned by a curtain not a door. There is about a one foot leeway to either side of the bed. I put my computer on a TV tray in the arch of the alcove and that worked for me. The living room beyond was 99% vacant so no problems there. The only warning is that your sound/privacy is as open to the house as it is to you. For instance: I was glad to have earplugs when a cold broke out and I wanted to escape the sound of coughing and stuffy noses. I also tried to time personal calls and internet chats with my husband when the house was vacant. There were times I watched TV on my Ipad to unwind - sometimes late into the night and had to remind myself to keep the volume low.

The house is on a fairly steep hill and there are a set of steep stairs up to the apartment. All this gives it a neat airy view of the village and downtown Boston - especially without the tree leaves. But this also means there is a hill to walk up from the bus - thought it is a safe neighborhood. The bus right at the corner near the house has a limited schedule and does not run at night.

Lastly - I am wheat free and didn't get to share in the daily bread and bagels but Duane did make me several breakfasts of arapas - egg/cheese in a cornmeal shell - that were great.

At the end of my stay Duane got me to the airport like a champ. He also gave me a box to pile in all my extra books and papers I had acquired during the semester, which was a great help.

  • Duane is a wonderful host! He made me feel right at home from the moment he picked me up at the bus station! The room is cozy, bright, and quiet, the bed is comfortable, the whole apartment is clean and welcoming. The balcony is awesome, with a really cool view! The coffee is excellent, and the homemade bread is delicious! I wish I could have stayed longer...staying at Duane's Coffee Roaster BnB is a totally positive experience! Ten Stars!

  • Duane was a great host. The space was clean and sweet and Duane made me feel comfortable and welcome to move around the shared space. He was very informative and we had a good exchange. I would recommend this place for any solo who was visiting the area and I would return should it be available.

  • I enjoyed my stay with Duane! He did everything possible to make me feel comfortable and at home. For me, the availability of free parking was really a huge plus, since parking in Boston can be a bear, and I liked the pleasant, quiet neighborhood. Also, I'll add that traveling as a single woman I was totally comfortable the whole time. A thumbs-up experience!

Comments: The apartment's location relative to public transit might make it a little inconvenient for tourists dependent on public transit, especially in summer heat or winter cold. For someone with a car, though, the ample free parking is a huge plus. Also, the room itself is separated from the living room -- which is always empty and peaceful during my stay -- by a heavy curtain, not a wall, which people with strong privacy issues might take note of. I felt quite comfortable, though.

  • I ended up canceling my reservation unexpectedly so I cannot comment in my stay. I did appreciate Duane's compassionate nature in dealing with the situation.

  • Duane's hospitality was simply incredible. The cozy room was cute and just right for my stay. The first night it was a little warm for my taste—I'm from Florida where air conditioning is a religion. I mentioned it to Duane, and when I came back the next evening, there was a new fan for my room. This is just one example of the many lovely things he did to make my stay awesome, from transit information to fetching me from the airport after my flight was massively delayed.

The coffee and breakfast bread were lovely touches and made my mornings.

To sum it all up, I would totally stay with Duane next time I visit Boston.

  • I have nothing but wonderful things to say about Duane and my stay with him. I happened to be there this weekend for the Boston Marathon and the bombings.

To start, I got in very late on Saturday night and Duane picked me up from the airport. The next morning he had freshly baked bread and coffee ready for me. He drove me to the subway station so I could easily get downtown (which takes about 20 mins via subway). It was so helpful!

The day of the marathon, Duane woke up at 5:30 AM and had coffee and breakfast ready for me yet again. He drove me to the shuttle buses downtown which was a total lifesaver!

Immediately after I finished the race and the bombs went off, Duane was there to pick me up and get me safely out of there. We sat and watched the news together for awhile after. It was a scary experience and I am so grateful that Duane was there to rescue me.

The room itself is clean and cozy. The bed is comfortable with a great down comforter. The bathroom is shared with the others in the home but it was always available when I needed it.
Duane was incredibly helpful with guiding me on public transit and even let me use his extra Charlie card.

The home is in a really neat part of Boston with a great view of downtown. My experience was excellent and couldn't have been any better.

  • Duane is a gracious host that goes above and beyond to provide a comfortable visit for his guests. The home is adorable, the coffee is killer, and the bread is better than your mom's. Thank you again for such a warm welcome to your amazing city.

  • Had an extended stay, and Duane was very gracious and accommodating! I'm a bit of a coffee snob, and his is excellent. He knows the city very well, and was quick to help with travel and recommendations. Roslindale's a nice, safe neighborhood, and the house is about a 40 minute commute to downtown. The room's cozy, and charming.

  • I had a very nice stay at Duane's house where I stayed 3 months this summer. Duane is outstanding host, very friendly, and very accommodating. He often picked me up at the subway station in the evening when I was coming back from work, and we had great times sharing meals, movies, etc. ! The room is private, the bed is comfortable and the house is really nice, in a very quiet neighborhood. I highly recommend this place!

I am a self-employed professional. I work as a technology consultant out of my home office. I am very knowledgeable about Boston, it's history, and most importantly, how to get around in Boston. I was once a Boston cab driver. I enjoy a lot of outdoor activities including surfing and tennis. Perhaps most interesting to my guests is that I roast coffee from beans grown on the best plantations in the world. This is absolutely a comfortable, professional, and safe place for both men and women.
