Private Room with Queen Bed.
This spacious 1905 apartment building is directly across the street from the Ashby BART station in Berkeley, a 20min train ride to Downtown San Francisco, a 15min walk to Downtown Berkeley and 20min to UC Campus.
Our groovy apartment was described by some guests as 'A Very Berkeley Experience'. Whatever that means, come see for yourself, and stay in the comfort and luxury of an Edwardian era South Berkeley apartment. Very conveniently located across from the Ashby BART station (20 min to downtown SF, 15min walk to downtown Berkeley, 20min walk to campus). We live in one of the oldest apartment buildings in Berkeley, above an antique store. The room is large and private with a queen bed and french door sliding to the dining room. You're welcome to use our porch, kitchen / kitchen appliances + supplies and dining room.
We are a couple of artists & writers in our early 30s. We are also pretty low-key, Lauren mostly stays at her pottery studio and James sleeps in his office, so you get the quiet, dark master bedroom to yourself.
Our classy, bohemian and eccentrically decorated apartment is often ooh'd and ahh'd over by friends and visitors, & you're invited to come stay here too!
Max 1 dog!
Free Wifi, coffee maker and other kitchen supplies. I will program the coffee maker to have coffee ready when you wake up if you want it.
We'll mostly stay out of your hair, but James is usually down for a beer if he's not working. Lots of local knowledge from living here for 9 years. Many board games on premises: Catan, Carcassonne, Takenoko, and more.
Our neighborhood has a park with lots of grass and tennis/ basketball courts just two blocks away, and a library branch. On weekends we have a big flea market across the street, and on Sundays the Thai Temple has an open air brunch one block over. Great local food/amenity stores: Berkeley Bowl Grocery, Crixa Cakes Bakery, Sconehenge Diner, La Familia Taqueria, Flaco's Taco's, Ashby Stage, The Starry Plough (Irish bar with live music), and a Walgreens amongst others.
BART station across the street, buses galore into SF and Alameda County.
PARKING: There is free street parking, sometimes you have to drive around for a minute to get a space, but it usually materializes.
If there are two guests, you must share the Queen bed.
Please do your own dishes.
Great experience staying here. Super-comfy bed. Very clean apartment. Nice shower. James was very laid-back and relaxed. 25minute walk to Downtown Berkeley.
James was an exceptional host, arranging for a last-minute stay for me in my spontaneous adventure, it was a blessing in disguise. His location is prime, right by MLK and Ashby, right across the street from the BART, as well as in walking distance to most anything desired in Berkeley.
James and I had a quick connection, and became friends almost immediately through explorative conversation over a few beers.
His apartment is very eclectic and artistic, clean and comfortable. I would most definitely stay here in my next travels through east bay.
James is a polite and helpful host, he gives you space in the apartment and it's certainly convenient. The place is certainly funky.
James is accommodating and easy to work with, and it was nice to have the standing offer of coffee and bagels for breakfast. The location is convenient both for getting into SF or exploring Berkeley. This listing is appropriate for folks who value that convenience and plan to be out and about.
This was my very first Airbnb experience and I'm hooked. James and Lauren were so amenable, cool and it was a pleasure staying with them. The apartment is in such a great location, I'm glad I decided against being bang in the city center. Berkeley is great in its own right. The apartment is clearly an artist's pad and I felt very at home there. It's quiet, like they say, the bed was soft and comfy and the porch was were I spent the afternoons writing. I'd go back again.
James and Lauren have a beautiful little space in Berkeley, within walking distance to pretty much anything you might need during your stay. The room and bed were very comfortable, especially after a long afternoon of being out and about. They were so kind, respectful, and very helpful (I was looking for a place to live in the Bay Area, and Lauren pointed out where I may or may not want to look for housing - thank you!), and I enjoyed getting to meet their pet rats! They really give you free reign of the apartment - except their bedroom of course. I appreciate their eclectic decorating style, it made the place feel like a home. I would recommend this place for anyone looking to stay in the Berkeley area.
Om værten, James
We are a couple of artists & musicians paying our rent as waiters. We are in our early 30s. We are social, stay up until about midnight (although we're pretty quiet after 10), smoke outside, & drink alcohol regularly. We are also pretty low-key, and the place is peaceful. Our classy apartment is often ooh'd and ahh'd over by friends and visitors, & you're invited to come stay here too!
