We are right across the street from Stanford University, and sandwiched in between University Avenue, and California Avenue. Our backyard cottage is completely private and detached from the main house! We are tucked into a great little neighborhood!!
We have really fast internet at the house, free parking on the street, 6 blocks to Downtown Palo Alto, and 5 minute walk to El Camino, Town and Country Village - Whole Foods Market, Peets coffee, Starbucks, the dry cleaner, etc. There are 3 beautiful parks with lots of open space within 6 blocks. The cottage is perfect for visiting scholars, startup entrepreneurs, Silicon Valley visitors or medical interns doing their Stanford rotation. San Francisco is a 45 minute drive or commuter train trip north of us. Two airports are within a 30 minute drive: SFO & SJC. The amazing California coast can be reached in 45 minutes at Half Moon Bay or Santa Cruz. The neighboorhood is one of the best in Palo Alto. Lots of great places to eat within a 5 minute walk. The cottage is a private unit separated from the main house. It has a full bathroom, and there is a double bed. I have a bike that you can rent for a nominal fee of $5 dollars a day. Please make arrangements with me ahead of time and I'll email you the combo for the bike! You can either bike around town or to the nature preserve along the bay, a bird sanctuary with hundreds of migratory birds. The town is incredibly bike friendly with tons of dedicated bike paths. There is a fire pit outside if you'd like to have a bonfire, and plenty of outdoor space to lounge around. It's a great little space for a last minute trip to palo alto! I hope you choose to visit!
Enjoy our backyard! There is lots of space to relax, or go ahead and explore the amazing town and university!
I am usually at the house, and am always accessible by phone, text, or email. I can arrange to meet you in person for check in and check out, or can leave the key in the door for you in check in... And you can always leave the key in the door for check out! I try to make your stay as easy as possible :) I am happy to tell you everything about Palo Alto, or can give you 100% privacy!
We are close to everything! I love the amazing food that is close by, and our great neighbors. You should explore the town by bike since you miss so much driving around
Caltrain is really close! There is tons of on street parking for free. Taking Uber to the airport is really easy, and you can get credit using the invite code: Josh

The Amazing Retreat in Palo Alto is a great place to stay. Very comfortable, great neighborhood and excellent location with Stanford across the street and easy access to the entire Bay area. Josh is very caring and responsive. We would definitely stay there again.
Josh and Lauren's place suited me perfectly. Quiet, comfortable, close to Stanford--where I was working for the week--also close to stores (Trader Joe's) and dozens of restaurants. I would definitely book again.
Great little spot for a couple or travelling solo
Needed a place for one night and Josh and Lauren's retreat was perfect. Had all the connections for technology (Josh even printed off something for me as a courtesy) and the room was private and cozy.
Another great stay at Josh and Lauren's comfy retreat!
Had a fantastic time staying here. While I didn't have the opportunity to meet Lauren, Josh was more than welcoming and very helpful with providing whatever we needed. I also joked that he should be a tour guide for Palo Alto, as his knowledge of the area is impressive.
Would definitely stay here again!
We had a very comfortable weekend at the "retreat" in Palo Alto. Josh's guest cottage is perfect for a few nights stay, with a space heater for the chilly January nights (and a fan for hot ones). Josh provides a refrigerator and basic toiletries, and he will gladly place a coffee pot and coffee in the retreat upon request. The WiFi worked great, and the room was extremely quiet-- you can hear the trains, but they do not run after about 11 pm. The street parking is ample, and the retreat is very close to downtown Palo Alto (3-4 min drive). Josh's place is highly recommended over the spruced up motels--but still motels--strung along Camino Real.
Had to go to Palo Alto for an interview, and wanted to stay the night to check out the area. Joshua and Lauren's place was quite expensive for the given space.
Pros: In a quiet nice area with tons of free street parking. Quick drive to all sorts of restaurants etc. The cottage is very clean and well kept. Lots of nice little treats waiting: e.g. bottle of Charles Shaw wine, chocolates, emergen-c packets, beer in mini fridge. Also there is a TV with lots of channels and good working wireless internet.
Cons: The place is really small. Given the price ($150) I would have liked to have a roomier space. Very little space to hang coats, or put bags. The room felt cramped. The bathroom door is also quite hard to close. The apartment did get a little chilly at night and it took the small space heater a while to heat the room up.
Overall the cottage is decent but quite expensive, in my opinion.
The retreat was cozy, private, and lovely with access to outdoor space and a pretty, green entrance. Josh was very helpful and accommodating. On the downside, it is quite small and there is nowhere but the bed to sit. It could use a little chair/sit space!
This is a quaint and terrific place. Excellent location in Palo Alto. Close to Stanford and downtown. Has everything you need for the night. Joshua and Lauren were great to coordinate with. Everything was easy and seamless. Charming place.
