A spacious house in a canopy of trees.

Come and stay in a Haliburton work of art...

Nestled in a mature maple forest, our Haliburton classic home projects from the ridge overlooking Head Lake. We are just a few minutes away from the centre of Haliburton.

The house has floor heaters and a wonderful masonry wood stove. In the spring, there is an amazing array of trilliums and in the fall you are surrounded by the full spectrum of colour. In the summer, the forest trees keep it cool and the gentle breeze discourages those pesky mosquitoes.

Maple Arbour is an example of how existing homes can be reworked to live lightly on the earth.

What you'll find here:
~ The covered balcony is a great spot to relax and watch the sun set.
~ The spacious interior has been beautifully refinished using sustainably harvested FSC-certified wood (cherry flooring and pine trim) and low-VOC finishes.
~ A large dining/living room/kitchen area surrounds a European-style masonry heater and bake oven.
~ Lots of large casement windows on all sides makes you feel like you're part of the the forest canopy.
~ Open-concept common area is perfect for family gatherings
~ Easy level layout, no stairs at entry, facilities all on one floor which makes Maple Arbour ideal for people with restricted mobility.
~ Radiant heated bedroom and bathroom floors.
~ Well-equipped kitchen.
- T.V. and DVD player
~ gas BBQ
~ Only 3 km road distance to the centre of Haliburton.

Her skal du være

Haliburton, Ontario, Canada

We're located just 3 km from the centre of the town of Haliburton. Here's a short list of the many attractions in the area.

Sir Sams [18 km]
Sir Sams ski area now has an 1100' covered lift that can transport 2000 skiers per hour up the hill.

Nordic cross-country ski trails [5 km]
Make friends with winter - a great set of cross country trails just a few minutes from the centre of town.

Haliburton Forest [21 km]
This huge tract of privately held land was rescued from an oblivion of exploitation and has become one of the world's earliest and finest examples of how to rebuild a forest and make a buck at the same time. Home of an amazingly diverse set of attractions, including dogsledding, snowmobiling, the Walk in the Clouds canopy tour and the wolf centre, camplng, fishing, trails for walking, biking, an astronomical observatory and... a submarine! Unfortunately the sub is now grounded, apparently because the government can't figure out how to regulate it.

Sculpture Forest [5 km]
A wonderful little walk in the woods in the presence of a diverse collection of spirits.

Haliburton Highlands Water Trails
Approximately 28,000 + hectares of provincial and municipal public lands comprised of countless lakes, rivers, trails and continuous forest, including the Leslie Frost Centre.

Algonquin Park [56 km to access point 15 at Kingscote Lake, 95 km to the west gate]
Does it need any introduction? It's a huge park and you can easily spend a week or more there, at various levels of engagement. Kingscote Lake at access point 15 is a great place for a day of canoeing and swimming. A quick sampler, and a personal favourite, is a short canoe trip up the Oxtounge River to Ragged Falls, accessible from the western border of the park. A canoe can be rented at the point of entry, no need to transport it on wheels.

Wintergreen [21 km]
Spring's magical elixer, the quintessential Canadian food - get some and see it in production at Wintergreen.

Wind in the Willows Spa [11 km]
Tune up your body with a massage, facial, pedicure, manicure...

Harmony Farm [43 km]
A great place to eat or to pick up gourmet food on the way up to Haliburton.

The Art Hive
A local Artist/Artisan Collective located on highway 118 between Carnarvon and Haliburton.

Kinmount Theatre [41 km]
Not your typical movie theatre - this has to be the funkiest cinema in the world, a theatre, cinema museum and art piece. Worth the price of admission just to take a tour of the film paraphernalia. See if you can figure out how they managed to get five theatres with 550 seats in there.

Haliburton Highlands Trails and Tours Network
Haliburton has an extensive network of hiking and biking trails.

Yours Outdoors
Yours Outdoors offers unique learning vacations and outdoor adventures that explore the rich natural and cultural heritage of Haliburton County. Yours Outdoors packages are original, engaging, enlightening, and will connect you with communities and the great outdoors.

Kayaking on the Gull River [26 km]
A favourite training ground for the whitewater crowd.

Dorset Lookout Tower [58]
This 82 ft. high Tower as a forest fire lookout provides a 310 square mile viewing radius of the surrounding highlands.

My daughter Kaila and I have taken over this account from my husband, Paul Newby, who passed away suddenly in June 2018. He was a Buddhist, environmental activist, intellectual, and above all an unusually caring person. He built this house with a great deal of care for detail, and with the goal of providing a peaceful space that is deeply connected to nature. Kaila and I would like our guests to feel they have a home away from home that provides a calm and comfortable 'get away' from the stresses of every day life.
