I live within a 1/2 mile from two (2) police is a police training station.

At ANY given time, you will see several police patrols going up and down the street, to and from the station. There is only so much precaution a traveller can take, but its always nice to know that protection is just AT the corner. So be safe! For those who need additional security, feel free to take advantage of my night time free shuttle from the nearest train stop!

I will admit, there are better areas in Chicago but none will be as memorable as your stay here! If you are looking for a posh, well-to-do area, DO NOT BOOK HERE! hehehe This is an urban inner city community that has undergone nice redevelopment due to the brand new college recently built (but has some work to be done). I live near a beautiful massive park with a full running track, community center /swimming and children's playground.

  • She is a nice woman with a nice and comfortable house to stay ;)

  • Nonya is very very friendly and she is very helpful to fetch me to and from the train station. I feel safe and extremely satisfied with my stay there.

  • Her house is a nice place and the people are even better. Annie helped me out getting know train route (real simple) ten minute walk from house. All n all if I came back to Chicago I would stay there again.

  • Inside it is al very nice an experience on itself. Also outside is very intersting and a good experience. I didn't have any bad experences outside but I think it is scary at night. I really don't know if that was nescesary ore just me. If you are more scared, You are more in danger then when you are not. I think it is a very good experiment and it is nice that in this rough neigbourhood people are creating things like this. It was a true adventure!

  • Nonya is the best!!!! (: I didn't have so many time to spend at her house, but the time I spent I felt so comfortable and felt like I was at my home, with old friends! Staying there was the opportunity I had to meet her crazy and lovely residents and people from a bunch of countries and different perspectives than mine. If I have the chance to go to Chicago again before I go back to Brazil, I will stay there again.

  • Nonya's house is basically good place to stay with comprehensive facility, reasonable location and exceptional cheap price.

  • Met a lot of awesome people and had a great time despite my short time there. I wish I could've stayed longer!

  • Nonya is really really cool and I regret I didn't stay in Chicago longer... I was hesitant at first to be away from downtown but man I made a mistake and should've stayed here my entire trip! Its basically like a hostel but way more fun because everyone was really chill, from all over the world, and very friendly and great getting to know. If you're easy going, minimal and love to explore, then stay here! Nonya's also really friendly and very accommodating. I got there late at night and she was willing to pick me up from the train station. I decided to walk it because the night was nice. The neighborhood looks like it can be dangerous but I felt really safe at the house and safe enough with common sense to be out alone. Anyway, highly recommend for anyone who wants to have fun!!

  • This is a fantastic place to stay in Chicago! Annie is really friendly and in touch with all community happenings, so she'll help you find something to do :) Everything is exactly like she says on her website. The house has a great vibe to it and the air mattress is super comfy--better than most hostel beds in fact! It's only a 10 minute walk to the red line (which runs 24 hours) - and Annie is always available after a certain time to give you a ride home if need be. Highly recommended.

  • This was great for the price. She upgraded me from an air mattress to a full sized bunk bed. It's a quick 30 minute train ride to downtown. Really easy to get to and from places. Not in the safest area but didn't have any problems. The house is full with guests who are nice, friendly, and good company. She even allows you to use fridge and make things to eat in the kitchen.

Om os
I Love Travelers, traveling and everything in between. Born and raised in Chicago, I became an avid traveller and barter enthusiast. I've been travelling for 20 years and could easily write my own book on travelling on a budget. I PRIDE myself on the deals I would obtain. A week in Ireland, rental of two 3 bedroom entire homes for $45! FOUR Chicago Bull playoff games during the Michael Jordan Era included 4th row floor seats, box seats...$100 total! Travelled europe thru 15 countries for $500 including accommodations and food...for a 3 month period! And this was BEFORE Airbnb. I can go on. I'm geeked when I find a deal and become just plain silly with happiness at an unbelievable deal. Even upon confirmation, my website for my guests are filled with free and things to do for CRAZY CHEAP. 'Spend like a spencer, but live like a king!' Aside from that, my mother was a big enthusiast in education. As the oldest of nine (9), I can tell you that we were not short on activities. Piano lessons on Saturday AND an hour a day, per child of piano practice since 4!; tennis on Sunday, knitting lessons on Tuesday and Thursday, sewing lessons on Wednesday and swim classes on Friday. And tha'ts not including the architectural/drafting studies and woodshop classes that consumed my teenage years in addition. If you are good, I can definately knit you a sweater with a nice cable stitch! My piano teacher was Professor Zilner Randolph for over 15 years. If you don't know who he is, perhaps you heard of a musician called Louis Armstrong or Duke Ellington? He was Louis Armstrong's musical director, played trumpet on a number of Armstrong's recordings and composed the tune "Old Man Moses'. He also played with Carroll Dickerson and Dave Peyton in the middle of the decade, and led his own Chicago band later in the 1930s. He was an arranger for Duke Ellington, Earl Hines, and others. Six of my siblings and I were his students for over 15 years.. In fact, one of my brothers, if you wish to look him up for a concert near you, is a worldwide professional jazz pianist and a graduate of Berkley College, with several releases. As for me, I became sidetracked with travel. If you are ever in South Korea, Ecuador, or Florida, you will probably run into five of my sisters/brothers and their familiies. Say hello for me! My home was built in 1875. So you will find some old and new features within. I'm always in construction to some degree within. Thanks to airbnb, I have been able to complete at least 75% of the renovations. Still have much to do. I feel everyone should open their minds to new things, cultural experiences and diversity. Only then can you understand people thru their eyes and not some narrow minded media coverage. By letting their experience be your experience will help you better understand people in a true and raw sense. That's why I simply love Airbnb. It places you in parts of the world where you probably wouldn't have gone but always wanted to go to get that 'local' feel with a local and trusted host. Since I don't travel as much as I used to....Let your experience be my experience! I look forward to meeting you.
