Beliggenhed

San Carlos de Bariloche, Río Negro, Argentina

Villa Llanquin is a quiet and safe place. You can swim, fish, climb, walk and bike in and around Villa Llanquin. The river offers transparent, torquoise, clean, cool streaming water, with lots of shade. Do not swim in the main river because of its strong stream, but in its branches that pass through the village. There are 2 grocerystores, but my advice is to get some shopping done in a supermarket before your arrival: for choice and variety.
In the village some neighbours do sell their homemade produce: vegetables, eggs, bread, etc, and during weekends a small market near the bridge will be happy to welcome you: empanadas, choripan, cakes, etc.and the typical handcraft of the area.

My nationality is dutch, and I have been living between the Patagonian mountains ,lakes, canyons and rivers, in and around Bariloche, for the past 20 years.. I take great pleasure in meeting travellers from all over the world here in Patagonia, and like to give tips if needed. My house is in Villa LLanquin, a small rural village, which was founded by ancestors of the mapuche family Llanquin. Their sheep, goats, horses and cows can often be seen wandering around freely. Nothing is to be taken for granted on this side of the river, time is not standing still but progress is slow. If you are looking to disconnect for a while this is certainly a good place to be. This is a great area for fishing trout and for swimming (in the calm branches that flow away from the fast main river) When temperatures are soaring, a plunge in that cool and cristalclear water is highly enjoyable and there is a beach área (the island) at a 5-7 minutes walk from the house. The red rocks in and around Villa Llanquin are more and more popular with climbers, partly due to Llanquin´s climate:it is more warm and dry than in Bariloche There are trips to recommend for hikers, bikers and offroad vehicles. One can take the road that passes my house eastwards, going up high and deeper inlands. There are alzó trails north-and southbound bordering the river. You will be able to enjoy spectacular views of the area, its rocky formations, with the Andes and Bariloche in the distance. Small producing farms can be visited. You can get homemade or -grown products from the neighbors (bread, eggs, vegetables, empanadas, etc) and typical handcraft of the area (leather and woolenl products). Wifi is roaming for free in the center of the village, in and around the main square, and just sometimes gets into my house. There is no telephonesignal in the village. Other activities that can be organized for guests are rafting and horseriding. Nightlife in Villa Llanquin limits itself to bright and amazing starry nights. Public transport passes by at the entrance of the village, on the other side of the river, on Route 237. The company Via Bariloche/Koko stops 2 or 3 times a day. You can also hitchhike with one of the villagers waiting in line to cross the river with the ferry (between 7am to 9pm). The ferry is manually operated by people of the community, and does only operate at night in case of an emergency. Limited vehicle access makes life quiet and peaceful in Villa Llanquin.
