I live within a 1/2 mile from two (2) police stations...one is a police training station.
At ANY given time, you will see several police patrols going up and down the street, to and from the station. There is only so much precaution a traveller can take, but its always nice to know that protection is just AT the corner. So be safe! For those who need additional security, feel free to take advantage of my night time free shuttle from the nearest train stop!
I will admit, there are better areas in Chicago but none will be as memorable as your stay here! If you are looking for a posh, well-to-do area, DO NOT BOOK HERE! hehehe This is an urban inner city community that has undergone nice redevelopment due to the brand new college recently built (but has some work to be done). I live near a beautiful massive park with a full running track, community center /swimming and children's playground.

Stay at Nonya's place was very good. She is very sympathetic, friendly and helpful. I appreciated stay in her house and I recommend for other travelers that are going to Chicago.
There is a reason that she has received so many good reviews on airbnb--she proposes an excellent service and what you see on her ads is really what you get!
We're sorry for not being able to say good bye to you in the next morning. We had to leave early to check in at the general consulate. We hesitated to wake you up - of course :D
Anyway, we're glad to meet you. You're such a friendly and generous person. Your place is comfortable and, more importantly, we felt the warmth of you as the host. We wish we had chatted more that evening but we were so tired. We hope we will be able to stay again at your place in the near future.
All the best,
Amor (Michigan) + Zulham (Iowa)
Annie it is a really fun person and received me and my friends cordially...my only concern it is about the neighborhood, it is not a good place to stay and it ihs really far from downtown. The house seems clean untill we find a rat inside the house..besides that everything went well.
Thats funny because your group didn't seem to have any complaints, even during the bon fire the last night. So now, you found a rat inside my house but you never mentioned it? You were here for 5 days and no word on any of this? I mean, if I saw a rat, I would have definately said something especially when I asked 2 days after your stay if your group would like to stay upstairs in the renovated attic as opposed to the living room. I have Orkin on speed dial. Also, you drove a car downtown every day. I don't understand how you can say that it is far from downtown? By car, my house is literally 15 minutes from downtown without traffic, 30 with traffic. If I were any closer to downtown, you would definately be paying more than $14 a night.
The room was a little bit far from the downtown, but there was no problem due to the nice metro system and pick-up service. We are very satisfied about this.
Annie is a great person and host, i met a lot of interesting people in her house, I felt safe and comfortable in my bed. I thank her for making my experience in Chicago so funny and easy :)
Nonya is a great host, she's a happy person, very talkative. The house is very big, clean, with a lot of people and it was fun! She has lot of very helpfull advises to visit Chicago and Save money! Thank you again cousin!!!

I Love Travelers, traveling and everything in between. Born and raised in Chicago, I became an avid traveller and barter enthusiast. I've been travelling for 20 years and could easily write my own book on travelling on a budget. I PRIDE myself on the deals I would obtain. A week in Ireland, rental of two 3 bedroom entire homes for $45! FOUR Chicago Bull playoff games during the Michael Jordan Era included 4th row floor seats, box seats...$100 total! Travelled europe thru 15 countries for $500 including accommodations and food...for a 3 month period! And this was BEFORE Airbnb. I can go on. I'm geeked when I find a deal and become just plain silly with happiness at an unbelievable deal. Even upon confirmation, my website for my guests are filled with free and things to do for CRAZY CHEAP. 'Spend like a spencer, but live like a king!'
Aside from that, my mother was a big enthusiast in education. As the oldest of nine (9), I can tell you that we were not short on activities. Piano lessons on Saturday AND an hour a day, per child of piano practice since 4!; tennis on Sunday, knitting lessons on Tuesday and Thursday, sewing lessons on Wednesday and swim classes on Friday. And tha'ts not including the architectural/drafting studies and woodshop classes that consumed my teenage years in addition. If you are good, I can definately knit you a sweater with a nice cable stitch!
My piano teacher was Professor Zilner Randolph for over 15 years. If you don't know who he is, perhaps you heard of a musician called Louis Armstrong or Duke Ellington? He was Louis Armstrong's musical director, played trumpet on a number of Armstrong's recordings and composed the tune "Old Man Moses'. He also played with Carroll Dickerson and Dave Peyton in the middle of the decade, and led his own Chicago band later in the 1930s. He was an arranger for Duke Ellington, Earl Hines, and others.
Six of my siblings and I were his students for over 15 years.. In fact, one of my brothers, if you wish to look him up for a concert near you, is a worldwide professional jazz pianist and a graduate of Berkley College, with several releases. As for me, I became sidetracked with travel. If you are ever in South Korea, Ecuador, or Florida, you will probably run into five of my sisters/brothers and their familiies. Say hello for me!
My home was built in 1875. So you will find some old and new features within. I'm always in construction to some degree within. Thanks to airbnb, I have been able to complete at least 75% of the renovations. Still have much to do.
I feel everyone should open their minds to new things, cultural experiences and diversity. Only then can you understand people thru their eyes and not some narrow minded media coverage. By letting their experience be your experience will help you better understand people in a true and raw sense. That's why I simply love Airbnb. It places you in parts of the world where you probably wouldn't have gone but always wanted to go to get that 'local' feel with a local and trusted host.
Since I don't travel as much as I used to....Let your experience be my experience!
I look forward to meeting you.
