It's almost April and there's not been snow for weeks. What a difference from last year when I had to clear snow in late March.
Let me know if you're eager to camp. Started the season for a discount if you like cutting wood! Tree fell recently.

Welcome to the Skunk Barn Farm field and forests ~~~
.... At the bottom of the field, and over-hearing the Canoe Brook, (you cant see it without walking to edge of wooded cliff) there is a 12 by 20 foot platform awaiting you and your tent. Fire pit is near. Recently a hemlock fell just off the deck and that will mean it is a bit more sunny and that there is firewood to be cut from the fallen tree. This is great because I had been finding that campers wanted firewood (ofcourse!) so I had been putting in time to make firewood for campers and therefore raised the price, and now have dropped it.
If you are experienced with hatchet, ax and bowsaw, either bring yours or borrow mine. If you are inexperienced, and I have time, (not always the case) I will gladly train you. A hatchet, though small, is a dangerous thing.
The woods are mature hardwood - birch, hickory, maple with some pines and hemlocks.
If you have need of house facilities please let me know and I will add $10. I am also happy to provide a simple breakfast if you order it in advance and tell me your dietary needs. I can do vegan to bacon to raw! Again, sometimes I will be gone early working....
Extended stayers who experience lousy weather (cold and wet!)may request light use of the kitchen and bathroom. This does not mean lots of refridgerator space; it's small. Please plan on using a cooler for the majority of your perishables. (it's shady in the woods.) Light use does mean a short shower once per 2-3 days, and using kitchen for one simple meal per day.
These visits will need to be scheduled, Thanks. I want others who may be here to feel comfortable. You would have access to the outhouse, of course, which is off the parking area near the house and to water.

The field used to be a hay field and the house a hay barn. The stream is year round. Now the field is a sanctuary for insects and birds. Read: it is not heavily mowed. Tick prevention measures should be taken. There is great hiking, Nordic skiing, dirt road walking, ambling, stream dipping, and culvert cooling very close by. From your tent you will hear possibly, deer, birds, and the stream.

To the north through the woods, are buildings where a family lives. I am on very good terms with these neighbors. Tent dwellers and they can't see each other but could hear each other so discretion is important.

Putney (5miles by road, 2 - 3 through forest) is a happening little town; as is bigger Brattleboro to South. Able cyclists can do it in 40ish minutes there and 1.5 hours back. There is a bus via Rt 5, N/S Brat/Putney/BellowsFalls. I've hitched from my driveway but most, regrettably, drive their personal automobiles.

We are a friendly bunch but you can have solitude if that's what you're after.
You need to arrive to set up before dark so we can show you the ropes. Unless you are really good at campiing and have headlamps. I dont want to be trying to help you much in the dark. Sorry.
Coming and going quietly is very appreciated. Folks live right above the parking area.
We practice a high degree of respect for the land and air and water and expect that you will also.
Otherwise you are free to enjoy the place and the area.
There is no internet. We will likely learn of your interest much faster if you telephone us! (PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN). Leave a phone number!!

The tent platform was beautiful, clean, and private. We drove up to VT to see some of the scenery and it didn’t end once we got to the tent platform. Greenough visited us for a bit to make sure we got setup just fine. She’s a warm, sweet person. Great communication. We hope to be back soon.

Perfect if you want a quiet camping spot, just inside the wood line, at the bottom of a gorgeous field. We intend to visit again!

G'O's spot was absolutely beautiful. She's a wonderful, helpful and gracious host. Spot was very easy to find and get to, yet still felt like camping in a remote tree house. Super close to the adorable town of Putney incase you forget anything or want an "out of woods"adventure. The tree canopy over platform kept us nice and sheltered during some night time/morning rain. Quintessential vermont country experience that was worth every cent. We will definitely be back!

You really can't get much more Vermont than this! G'O' was a delightful host who we had the pleasure of meeting over some morning Vermont air! I wouldn't definitely love to stay again!

My daughter and I converted a barn into a home and an apartment 20 years ago when she was on the crew as a home-schooled 7th grader and I GCed when I came home from jobs away. We've always striven to live very sustainably. She learned early how to network for rides, I even sometimes leave the car at home and hitch .

Though we could have, we opted not to put in a septic system, so we function on the "water is precious" paradigm. This means I find ways to use water more than once! I'd be happy to show you how to save $ on your water bill.
We've always grown various amounts of food on site, including some meat which I'd like to do again when there's more human resource on premises.
Present demography existing, we're working perennial fruits and a small summer garden... well the leeks and kale will last into the fall.
We call the place the Skunk Barn Farm. Historically, skunks were relocated here from the boarding school nearby, some died in the hay barn and we found their beautiful skeletons amongst the old hay and boards that lay in the barn, unused for decades. I chose to retrofit an existing structure near a road as a way to not take away habitat from animals less adaptable than our human selves.
Though not fancy, it's comfortable: passive solar shortens our wood heating season. And a small solar array will keep the well water pumping in case things go south. Solar "clothes dryer" works year round if you know how....
As a family we've always shared our living quarters with housemates, and recently I've expanded the concept to include an apartment under the same roof and the tent located where my family lived while we constructed.

I've worked over the years on Nuclear disarmament, War Tax Resistance, Civil Rights and Global preservation. I'm an avid outdoor (non-motorized) recreationist and dancer. Our fairly extensive library is available for your perusal.

I'm interested in International trends, people, music and places. Hablo espanol bastante bien. I teach Spanish, so far mostly, to children. Je parle un petit peu de Francais. So if you're from Quebec je voudrais parley Francais avec toi!!
I am not attached to my phone.. But I do eventually get messages that you send via this fabulous digital broker. Important for you to know though that I may not be super prompt. My work with people will not be interrupted for a digital message. Later right?
I've traveled sola to El Salvador, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, and Chiapas, and Michoacan, Mexico and with my daughter cross (this) country and to the Netherlands. As a child I was taken to Europe: GB. Luxembourg y Espana where my mother's cousin married a Madrileno and stayed. I'd love to travel more. I know how to travel cheap, 'cept for the getting there.
I do not charge a per person rate, but if you come with more than 2 people please consider leaving me a tip. Thanks.
But I truly love my home. Here at the Skunk Barn Farm the sun shines amply, the skies are fantastic, and the greenery is varied and lush. It's a tough place to leave. I love sharing it with people. I hope you'll enjoy visiting.
