Casa Paola is situated on the ancient ‘way of the Cacciatori’ (The Hunters) in the tranquil historic hinterland high above Lenno - below the nearby abbey and the church of the Madonna - with views towards Lake Como from the rear terrace of this village house and the bedrooms above.
This village house affords views towards Lake Como from the rear terrace and the bedrooms above. We invite you to enjoy this relaxing, tranquil setting, far from the maddening summer crowds that visit Lake Como, yet centrally located to enjoy the total tourist experience.
Enter the house through the front door into the living room with dining table, small sofa and adjoining kitchen, and pass through to relax on the ‘al fresco’ terrace under a shady retractable awning. The bathroom with shower, toilet and bidet is also located on the ground floor. Upstairs the master bedroom offers a queen-size bed and views towards the lake or the mountains via cross-flow ventilating windows. The second bedroom has twin beds are set diagonally by each window.
In this delightful enclave, enjoy time for ‘dolce fa niente’ – literally, the pleasure of doing nothing… or plan a visit to one of Lake Como’s famous tourist attractions, such as the villas Balbianello, Carlotta, and Melzi, or the lakeside towns such as local Lenno with its picturesque waterfront and Tuesday market, or Cernobbio, Bellagio, Varenna, and Menaggio, and the international ambiance of Cadenabbia and Como’s Centro Storico, all within 25 km of Casa Paola. All attractions can be accessed by car, local C10 bus, and lake ferry.
In the village itself a short stroll along ancient alleyways leads to Abbazia dell’Acquafredda, c1143 (Coldwater Abbey) in the adjacent hamlet of Rocate. The abbey’s name is derived from a nearby source of particularly cool water where locals still refill bottles with drinking water today. In upper Lenno itself the village square, Piazza Trinità is situated beside a pretty chapel of the same name that stands beside a rushing brook flowing from the abbey.
Lower down, in the centre of Lenno around the beautiful ‘Baia di Venere’ (the Bay of Venus), the town treasures several religious buildings considered important works of art in their own right, including the parish church of Saint Stefano (with pre-Christian crypt), which faces the Romanesque baptistery of Saint Giovanni in Lenno’s main square, Piazza Santo Stefano. Trattoria S. Stefano opposite the church offers “a genuine taste of tradition” with its local slow-food prepared by chef Claudio Zeni and served by his wife Gloria. Along the waterfront bars serve snacks, coffee and other beverages, and offer free wi-fi internet.
The weekly Lenno market takes place each Tuesday in the piazza and along the lakeshore drawing visitors for over 100 years to amble the stalls selling everything from vegetables, plants, clothing, smallgoods, hot roast meats, hardware, and caged birds.
Along the main road in Lenno towards Como from the piazza you’ll find a Sigma supermarket, petrol station, hardware shop (Valdè), and coffee shop with wi-fi Internet Point, all within a few metres of each other dispersed across the intersection between the main road Via Statale (SS340) and Via Rima. Close by is the more local Dino’s supermarket, and a pharmacy (English spoken). Shop hours vary. The tourist office in Lenno is situated in the council building next to the church.
