Experience the Marlborough Sounds' down-to-earth lifestyle in an artists house. We are 11km from Picton on Queen Charlotte Drive, one of the most scenic drives in NZ. Great access to sea kayaking, boating, swimming, and spectacular scenic mountain biking and hiking tracks. Vibrant artwork in the premises. If you stay for 2 nights or more you can use our mountain bikes and sea kayaks, perfect way to explore the tracks and waterways.

Pladsen

This relaxed environment is a low cost option for down to earth travellers. The house features differently themed spaces that makes it one of a kind. This accommodation for four people is a themed bedroom in the house. All the other facilities including kitchen, bathroom and a lounge are in our house that we share with guests. Most of the time you can have the house to yourselves as I work and virtually live in my Art Studio behind the house. Our house is modest, but having a climbing wall and a tree hut in the lounge has got to be a memorable bonus. Also in the space you can discover all kinds of artwork featuring photographs and paintings from different adventures and travels.

Adgang for gæster

The house is accessible at all times including kitchen, bathroom, lounge, deck etc.

Kontakt med gæster

Andre ting, der er værd at bemærke

There are no shops here so please shop in Picton for food etc. before heading out this way.

Sirpa was a great host, good kitchen, interesting to see her Art studio and artwork around the house. Clean and comfortable, and great value for money. Highly recommended.

Sirpa's home is very distinctive and colourful, in the nice environment of Queen Charlotte's sound. We really liked it, as well as our host!

Sirpa was a fantastic extremely accommodating host. The place was unbelievable and so convenient. We were warm, comfortable and were provided with everything we needed. We were late off the boat and Sirpa still waited up for us and had so many useful tips. The art gallery was also amazing!

Sirpa and Paul were great hosts. We loved the coziness of the caravan, and we felt welcome to come and go as we pleased, as well as invited into conversation and hospitality. So glad we stayed a couple of nights. The bay is lovely. Great water for swimming and there are accessible walks and kayaking options. Only 20 mins from Picton, so great if you have a ferry to catch, as we did.

It was a unique experience as the house is creatively decorated and it was lovely to meet the artist. The situation may not suit all travellers, but it sure added value to our trip.

Sirpa 'took us in' after the Kaikoura earthquake forced us to change our accommodation and it was hard to find a place to stay. The caravan was booked, so Sirpa prepared one of the kids (?) rooms as a guest room for three for us, with great beds (cosy and clean and surrounded by vibrant art work!) and fresh towels...wonderful after the long drive! We shared the family space and felt very welcome. The location is an absolute dream and the walk to the jetty with the unreal landscape one of the best and relaxing experiences you can have. The host clearly indicated we were sharing the family space and if you are so lucky, you will be amazed by the beauty of these lovely family and their holiday house/artist residence. Thanks again!

I am an illustrator/artist living in the Marlborough Sounds of NZ. I have two children aged 16 and 18. I love travelling and meeting people from different cultures. As an independent traveller myself I hope to meet the needs of fellow travellers: basic, affordable place somewhere nice where you can cook, take a shower and sleep and have your own private little space to chill after a hard days travel. Sometimes I am away but one of us will be here welcoming you.
