This guest requested a number of times that he pay privately “outside of AirBnB” so to not pay as much. I was not open to doing this and recommend being aware that he may try this again.
A few days into his stay, the hot water system burst in his bathroom causing flooding throughout the entire unit.
This was due, in part, to his placement of the bathmat being over the floor drain and not allowing the water to drain!
As a result, the carpets and flooring had to be removed and cement slab dryed. He had the option of cancelling his second week but chose to stay in the turmoil of cold cement floors and industrial floor dryers! It was a continuous struggle to keep the house 100% warm during this time.
The room has a warm feather doona, plenty of blankets and warmth and although the living areas were available for his use, he did not choose to use them.
I apologised profusely for this but, as it was out of my control, could do nothing but offer a cancellation. He did not communicate particularly well making it difficult to adjust for his needs.
It was a very difficult period made even more difficult.
NOTE: My following guest was also made aware of this turmoil and chose to stay anyway. She was comfortable, had a blast and gave very favourable reviews.
