Carriage House on the Rock is a two minute walk to Westwood Lake Park that offers world-class mountain bike trails and hiking. A cozy one bedroom carriage house that is fully appointed. A 6km walk around the lake, or if you are feeling adventurous, a 3 hour hike up Mount Benson and its amazing views are nearby. Only three km to downtown, & float planes to Vancouver. Walking distance to VIU, Aquatic Center, and Nanaimo Ice Center. We are centrally located but offer a quiet remote getaway.

Seawall Getaway

Private, self contained space available for 1 person or 1 couple in a remodeled character home. Five minute drive to Departure Bay ferry (or 15-20 min walk); 15 minute walk along beautiful seawall, (directly across the street and down the hill), to seaplanes and downtown, where you'll find shopping, the Nanaimo Art Gallery, Nanaimo Museum, The Port Theatre, Nanaimo Conference Centre, as well as several restaurants, coffee shops, and pubs. South facing, sheltered from most of the wind, walk-on oceanfront in the city! Large deck, Solarium, Hot-tub, Kayaks and stunning views (Brandon Islands, Newcastle Island Provincial Park, Birds, Seals, Otters, Boats, Fisheries Canada docks). Swim, Paddle board, Kayak, Beach comb, Picnic or just relax - beside the salt water and a patch of old forest. Nanaimo is centrally located, permitting day trips to Vancover, Victoria and even Tofino. Luke (myself) reside in the suite.

Imagine waking up to the sound of waves lapping on the rocks, the sunrise mirrored across the water. Take your coffee out onto the private oceanfront patio where you can lounge in the hammock. Kayaking around Departure Bay is easy as the kayaks are kept just above the high tide mark, grab life jackets and paddles from the yoga room and you’re good to go. Later you can relax in the hot tub. All this 10 minutes from the shops and cafes of Nanaimo.

The sliding glass doors from the main room open onto your private balcony overlooking the ocean. Enjoy the decks and chairs down by the ocean as well as direct beach access to beautiful Whalebone Beach.

Private 1 bedroom carriage house with small view of the ocean (in the summer trees in the park block most of the view) and Chinese Garden. Steps away from harbourfront walkway to downtown. Has full kitchen, washer/dryer, TV (no cable, Netflix etc.), WiFi and electric fireplace. In the summer air conditioner available in the living room. Off street parking and private entrance. A laptop friendly workspace in the living room.

The Hideout

We have updated The Hideout and look forward to welcoming the world back at the end of summer 2025!! The Hideout grew from a vision we had when we moved to the Coast in 2020. With the desire to share our dream of living amongst the trees, tucked away from the world, The Hideout was created. Wrapped in hand milled cedar, fir and hemlock this space was designed to remind us to slow down, breathe deep and take it all in.
